LOCAL OFFICE UPDATES AND OUR OLD AOS CASE

June 30th, 2006 my wife and I went to St. Louis on an Infopass appointment as a follow-up to her October 19th, 2005 successful AOS interview. The main problem was the total SILENCE we recieved from the USCIS. We had no idea what was going on, and repeated attempts to find out only produced more silence, so Infopass was a needed thing here. Others had already got a welcome letter and the green card, but it was as if we didn't exist.

The first thing we discovered was that the office there is now split and is 3 offices. It must have confused things with them as much as it did with us. Soon we are talking with a woman who is behind bullet proof glass, and I noticed that she had no name tag or number. She immediately told me that those you deal with on the 800 number are not real USCIS, and they have not studied immigration law, etc. They are best used to file a change of address, she said.

She takes my wife's A number and views a computer a moment. I can see her lips move and she comes back to say they have started my wife's green card as of June 27th. We may get it very soon - and then we may not. There is no problem. Maybe our filing of the I-90 speeded this up, or maybe not. Our case has taken so long becuase our interviewer is very meticulous, and one of the best they have got, etc. That is why the long delay here. Everything seemed to be in order, she says, and she encouraged Infopass appoinments over any other type of contact with them. I read everything "between the lines" as we talked and she assured us all is really OK.

SO, we left there knowing that soon the green card will arrive from Kentucky, - or maybe it will not? If we have any more problems we are told to make another Infopass appointment. She says it is the only real way to know what is going on.

Now we await our good news that may come soon, - or maybe not. Assuming all is OK as they say, we now know that my wife gets the green card as soon as USCIS sees fit to issue it.

I feel your pain. My case was transferred to CSC, but this is a double edged sword, bc if it hadn't been we would have had an interview now. I'm stuck in limbo, a lot like where you are except without an approval. Hopefully you'll get your GC before the year is over. I know I'll be hoping.

Sigh.

I am NOT looking forward to AOS. After reading this and that here, there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason for what happens. BUT we have this to do so we'll make the best of it and deal with it like we have everything else, all the while keeping all this information at hand if and when needed.

Waiting for the K-1 seemed easier. :)
