Hey guys,

Finally got my CFR letter. It has arrived since this past Monday but since I have provided one of my friend's address for all the mails, I haven't had a chance to go pick it up. But I expect it to be no different than anybody else'. If there is anything surprisingly different I will keep you posted. But since CFR is here I think the IL will arrive in a few days as well.

My wife kind of had her interview today. That is, she passed her test, but hasn't been approved.

Her appointment was scheduled for 2:35pm at the San Jose office. We arrived early around 2:20pm and put her interview letter in "the box". We waited while people who arrived before us called called into the back rooms for their interviews. Then around 2:50 or so, when someone came out to call the next person, a guy went up and asked why he hadn't been called since his interview was scheduled for 1:45pm. They gave him the obligatory, "it will be soon" response.

We then waited as people who arrived after us were called in for their interviews. When a guy came out to call someone else, my wife went up to ask him when she would get interviewed, he asked her last name then checked something in the back and said, "You're next."

Three more names, none of them my wife's, were called and the room was thinning out. At this point, there were only five people in the waiting room, my wife and I, another couple, and a single man. I talked to the man and his appointment was for 2:10, so he had been waiting longer than me.

By 3:45, the woman in the other couple was called in, then I went to the restroom and when I returned, I saw my wife was talking with some woman. She was telling my wife that she couldn't do the interview today because some earlier interview took way too much time and she had to leave soon. My wife was about to agree to coming back another day, but I insisted that was not possible. She apologized and said she would really like to be the one to interview my wife, but on another day. I said, "I know it is not your fault, but it really is not possible for us to come back another day. Please find someone else who can interview my wife." She said she'd see what she could do.

After talking to my wife, she called the single guy over and gave him the same story. She and the man disappeared, then another woman came out and asked for my wife. She then asked if she had her green card and passports. After my wife said yes, she said, "Let me get someone to interview you" and went back into the back room.

Finally, a man came out and called my wife's name. She went into the back and was asked her civics questions and some standard interview questions. The guy said that since he was not familiar with my wife's paperwork, he could not approve her on the spot. He gave her a paper saying she passed the test of English and US history and government, but "A decision cannot yet be made about your application". He told her she will receive the decision by mail.

So again, we wait. :(

@Roosh - glad you got a sign of life on your case! Sure that IL will be here after Labor Day weekend...

@DaveH - Congratulations to your wife for passing the English and Civics Test. It's really annoying that y'all had to wait so long, and then couldn't get the assigned IO. I think you were right to push to get her interviewed though, sometimes I think the USCIS staff are immune (due to repeated exposure) to the fact that this day is such a huge event in our lives and just another day at the office for them. I often I had the impression before, that the IOs didn't even look at the files much before the interview, so that was interesting learning, that the lady was assigned to it, and wanted to be the one to interview her. I guess they didn't ask for any further evidence, so I think its safe to assume that she'll be approved in the next 2-4 weeks I think. Are you applying on the 3 years PR/marriage? If so, did you include tax transcripts and other evidences that they can use for the adjudication...? Hang in there, overall its a positive (but frustrating) experience...

@Scouser1973 Wife - happy to hear you got your IL! Now time to get the civics started... Sure hubby's letter will turn up in a few days. You might be scheduled for the same day/time...

@DaveH - Congratulations to your wife for passing the English and Civics Test. It's really annoying that y'all had to wait so long, and then couldn't get the assigned IO. I think you were right to push to get her interviewed though, sometimes I think the USCIS staff are immune (due to repeated exposure) to the fact that this day is such a huge event in our lives and just another day at the office for them. I often I had the impression before, that the IOs didn't even look at the files much before the interview, so that was interesting learning, that the lady was assigned to it, and wanted to be the one to interview her. I guess they didn't ask for any further evidence, so I think its safe to assume that she'll be approved in the next 2-4 weeks I think. Are you applying on the 3 years PR/marriage? If so, did you include tax transcripts and other evidences that they can use for the adjudication...? Hang in there, overall its a positive (but frustrating) experience...

It is good to know that the IOs look at the files in advance, although I think there is room for improvement in their process.

My wife is indeed applying on the 3 year PR/marriage basis. In her application, I included a copy of our joint bank account, deed to our house, and some other bills showing both our names and address. She said the IO asked to see her her passport, marriage certificate, and to see a copy of our tax returns. She was also asked a few questions related to our marriage like when we were married, do we own a house, is it a house or a condo... . I suppose there is still a chance she will be asked to go back to show them something else. That's really the annoying thing, we won't know until we get a letter from them...and even for that, we don't know what the time frame is. Personally, I think it should be days, not weeks, to hear from them.

Now it's on Oct 14th...(before was on Sept 16th)

Please update my info.

Hopefully no more notices changing dates before the actually interview.

Hey guys,

I am looking at my CFR letter for the first time right now, they are asking me to bring my state issued driver's license which is normal, however, they have the following item on the list too:

You indicated in your application that you have been arrested. For these arrests and any other incidents in which you may have been involved, bring originals or certified copies of all arrest records and court dispositions showing how each incident was resolved.

The only reason why I think they would have mentioned this was because I listed down my 4 traffic violations until now in Part 10. D section of the n400. But none of them ended up in my arrest by anyone. So I don't know what to bring for those. Because like anyone else I have paid the fine for those and haven't saved the receipts from courts.

I don't know what to do for this one. If any one of you had something similar happen to them or know somebody who have had this issue, please let me know.

@Roosh - yes everyone who has traffic tickets listed on N400 gets the CFR notice with 'arrested' on it. Would you have bank records, canceled checks (that kind of stuff) that you could show that you paid it? If they are tickets for speeding etc that are under $500, I think its unlikely that you'll be asked to show anything, but the IO might ask what they are for. Another option is to get a copy of your driving record from DPS/DMV that shows that you haven't been in trouble recently and has the simple tickets listed (example of what I mean: http://www.state.nj.us/mvc/Licenses/driver_history_page.htm).

Hey Wannabe_Texan,

Thank you very much for a quick response. I really appreciate it.

With the N400, I also sent a Driver's History abstract that I got from DMV or MVC. But I sent in a copy. So I think I will bring the original with me. The only problem is that the abstract only mentions when I was involved in any kind of traffic violations. It doesn't say anything on it to the fact that I have paid the necessary fine and the citation has been settled.

I have had 4 violations and all of them happened in different towns not so far from where I live right now. I called couple of courts and they said that they could print out the receipt of my payment for the fines and mail them to me. I hope those along with the driver's history abstract from motor vehicle company should be sufficient for them.

I am still contemplating whether I should go in person to the USCIS office close to me to see the IO in person with InfoPass to ask them whether those are the things that they expect.

I would really like to know if something similar happened to someone and how did the interview go for them in terms of questions and the documents they were looking for.
