I got my wife's interview notice yesterday. The checklist includes a request for the IRS 1722. I called the IRS and was told that the 1722 letter and its successor the 9722 letter no longer exist.

I called the USCIS line to inform them of this. The rep who took my call couldn't find anything in his script about the IRS 1722 so he told me just to inform the IO at the interview that the form was discontinued. I asked to speak with a second level officer about what my wife should bring in its place. He refused to transfter my call, claiming that the guidance he was giving me came from his supervisor.

I'm sure I'm not the first person to call and ask them about the 1722, so I'm a bit surprised they don't have anything in their scrip to advise people that the checklist is outdated.

My wife will bring the tax transcrpts that IRS is sending us in place of the 1722. The problem is that there seems to be no way to certify that they are originals and not copies.

Hi, I sent in copies of the IRS transcripts with the I-864 to the NVC and had no problems. I always like to keep originals and send copies if originals are not required. I have not seen anywhere that originals of transcripts are required for I-864 or interview. If anyone else knows different, please enlighten us. Good Luck!!

Ah! Very easy, request two tax transcripts from the IRS, give them one, problem solved! If you haven't mail the package yet (which you already have), I would just mail the tax transcript with the N400 package in its original envelope from IRS unopened, that ought to prove the transcript to be original.

We already have the tax transcripts. My point is that the USCIS interview checklist asks for an IRS form that is obsolete and the USCIS 800 number seems to have to clue about it. All they'd have to do is put a note in their script that tax transcripts should be submitted in lieu of the 1722 letter.

So, this was more a rant about the incompetence of USCIS than anything else.

Yup! I got your point. The USCIS as usual. ;)

I called the 800 number back today and was told by a "supervisor" that if the IRS 1722 no longer exists, that I would need to get a letter from the IRS verifying that this form no longer exists - something which the IRS agent told me yesterday they cannot do. You have got to be kidding me.

I can't imagine I'm the first person to ever call USCIS about that form. Why I didn't get transferred to an actual USCIS employee is beyond me.

Why don't they just shut the 800 number down altogether? They don't have any useful information anyway.
