I just came across this link in another forum and now I'm confused. What does this mean, in "normal" person language?

RM 00203.500 Employment Authorization for Nonimmigrants

To me it looks like they are saying that K-1's are automatically authorized to work without a stamp or EAD. What? This is also dated 4/13/09, does that mean it's something new? Anybody know?

i don't think it's new. k-1s have always been work authorized- but only for as long as the I-94 is valid, so 90 days after entry.

after that they have to apply for an EAD to continue authorization. unless you marry immediately and adjust status and apply for an EAD immediately, it's almost impossible for you to be continuously work authorized.

That's REALLY interesting! I have never heard that before. I am printing it out though. My fiance has a temporary stamp in his passport that expires July 12, 2009 and we are just now adjusting his status, so his EAD will probably not arrive before his stamp expires. This makes it sound like he will still be authorized to work in the interim. Reading through everything it seems valid, especially considering that this is the SSA's official website. Thanks for passing this along!!
