Hi there, I have filed my I-751 application on March 8, 2009, on April 1, 2009 i had biometrics taken and since then I haven't heard anything from the USCIS. My 2-year GC is about to expire on June 5, 2009 and I dont know what to do???? My drivers license will expire, what about work???? How do I go on????

I contacted the USCIS office and they sent a letter saying that the case is still pending and if I don't hear anything for the next 6 months, call them back. But what about the expired GC by then????? Can anybody advise what to do? I'd appreciate it!

Do you have NOA1? It says that your green card is extended for 12 months, you are authorized to work and travel. If you didn't receive NOA1, make an infopass and get a stamp in your passport, this stamp will extend your greencard.

No, I don't have NOA1. I thought about calling USCIS back and ask them what to do after expiration of 2-year GC???

Hi tessoro24,

First of all :time: by clicking on My Assistant > Add/Edit My timeline and also put your info in the signature (like when you did you send the package, when did you get the biometric appointment letter and when did you do the appointment and LUD last update date on your case etc).

I know how you feel. It seems to me that you did get biometric appointment letter but not NOA.

I agree with what '04-09 filler' said, If you didn't get NOA1 (Notice of Action, confirmation of case received and extension of work and stay for 1 year) then make an infopass appoint for your nearest USCIS field office.

https://infopass.uscis.gov/info_en.php

Will tell you the field based on your location.

On the 1st page choose "You need Service on a case that has already been filed " and then on the next page choose "If it has been over 45 days since you contacted NCSC and have not received a response to your inquiry. You must bring the Service Request ID Number related to your inquiry to the appointment."

Go to Info pass appointment before appointment time (10-30 mins) and ask the IO (Immigration Officer) that you applied for I-751 and didn't get NOA and would like I-551 stamp on your passport.

Since you didn't get the NOA they will easily give you a stamp on your passport which will extend your work and stay for 1 year (which is 1 year added to the date your GC expires e.g GC expires 05-01-009 will be extended to 05-01-10)

NOA and I-551 stamp are the same thing which are equivalent to having a temporary GC till you get 10 year GC. So If you unrestricted SSN and state Id should be fine otherwise. If your employer knows that your GC will expire show them the stamp I-551.

While I-751 you can work, travel and stay just like before.

Regarding work, read the following it answer all questions.
