As many know, elaborate wedding photography packages are the norm in China. Videos, heavy stock books of all sizes, posters of all sizes, exotic locations, many costume and makeup changes, prominades, etc. Very cool!

How many here did that or plan to do it? Even though we are K-1 we plan to do it before we return for the USA marraige.

Check out this group doing a part of their package on a boat!

We are in Shenyang. Yes, we wore costumes. I think they are standard. Most of the time was spent on my fiancee's makeup and styling her hair.

The costumes are great! From many others too I've heard it is her day, it is superb for her to get all primpted and coddled. I know my girl is very tight with money so I asked her, "are you sure you want to do the fancy photos?" She laughed and said, "why do you have to ask?"

China Wedding Portriats

A popular thing to do in China is to get lots of Wedding portraits taken. We decided to try it out. WE got a packaged deal of 5 different outfits where they do a new hair style and change makeup for each outfit. After that experience, I decided modeling is hard work!

We arrived at the photo botique at 8:00 am and were done around 3:00 pm, with a little snack somewhere in that time. The whole place ran like an assembly line. Choose the woman's dress. The guy then dress in the matching men's outfit to compliment the women's dress. The woman gets her hair done first, then her makeup. Get in line, take some photos, and start the process over again. They instructed us on each exact pose and took one picture of each pose. Amazing that we didn't blink and were smiling in every picture!

It was some experience, one that Nathan never wants to repeat. (and they did a lot less to him than me) The photo botique also had many different Western Evening Gowns but alas, I'm too large to fit into any of them. I didn't really fit into the wedding dress, they made do with what they could. Its funny how I could fit in the Eastern clothing but not the Western, ironic don't you think?

In the end, we got a large 17 page 11x14 album, a 16 page 5x7 album, and framed 20"x24", 14"x18", 8"x10", 5"x7" pictures. Total cost, around $400 US. Not bad eh?

The wedding photos are pretty much mandatory if you're marrying a Chinese, no matter how tight she might be with her money. She'll just shop around for the best deal. :)

Yes, it's definitely more for the bride than for the groom. Also for her parents, since you're taking her far away from them, they need some good pictures of you two.

The wedding photoshoot is a must. Ours required 12 hours, a rented car, 4 make-up and photo technicians, a studio, 2 parks, and our apartment. Most of the photos taken were of my wife, but I managed to slip into a few. The best were the candid shots, and the fashion shots like my avatar. total cost, about 1000 Rmb. The resultant product is a 20 page wedding book, several large framed prints, a bunch of smaller framed or lacquered prints, and a disc of digitals. You couldn't get the same package in America for less than 6 grand.

The wedding party photos and video were shot by two guys and produced for about 500 Rmb, resulting in several discs of still shots and a chinese style wedding video complete with carefully intoned voice over chinese poetry and animation graphics left over from the Wonderful World Of Disney films of the late 70's. It's really quite comical to watch.

Beware the hairdresser. Flowers the size of dinner plates are just not designed to be attached to the human head. Haute coture seems novel in the moment, but ages poorly in an album. You may have to put your foot down to get some photos in a style your wife won't be embarrased to show in America. The classic Audrey Hepburn style looks good on a chinese if your girl is thin, and is well known in hair shops.

Enjoy the wedding dress shopping. Li had to have 2, one for China and one for America. both are silk and very ornate. Cost of about 1000 Rmb each. Would be 5-8X as much in America. The shopping was lots of fun, and the first dance with a stunner is worth the effort in finding one.

If they actually let you stand in a few of the photos, be sure to smile. My wife is dazzling in all of ours, but i look like i'm bored to tears in many of the shots. When you go, be sure to take a paperback book. It's a lot of waiting.

My wife hates pictures in general, but on this we agreed it was nice to have. She shopped around for good deal. We had a driver, a photographer, 2 make-up people, assistants, etc a big crew type experience! We went in at about 8 am and didnt finish until 8 pm. Cost about 3000 rmb and they took one picture at a time literally one at a time no shooting a bunch in fast mode every shot set up, and my wife had exclusive editorial choice and she didn't like most but she decided to choose about 28. I haven't seen the actual album even though I just left there yesterday, I will see it later, it's heavy and glass book.

very beautiful! 3000Y for just one book?

It included 12 hours of shooting with a whole team, costuming, transportation around the beautiful scenic areas, lunch, snacks, and creative photoshopping and they also included the pictures electronically with no water marks or restrictions of use. They took well over 100 pictures and we could have chosen many, but my wife is really selective and only chose 28. I could never match this service for about 400 bucks in the USA with a pro !
