It's Carla Antoinette: France's First Lady tours recession-hit Paris in disguise just like aristocrats during the Revolution

The First Lady of France is never happier than when she is strolling through the streets of Paris – incognito, that is.

In fact, Carla Bruni even admits donning a special disguise and affecting a ‘funny voice’ to avoid being spotted, much like Marie Antoinette was said to have done during the French Revolution.

In a magazine interview to be published tomorrow she says: ‘When I go out shopping I disguise myself by putting on glasses and I change my voice.’

Rather than being deep, husky and understated – as it is when Ms Bruni speaks at official engagements or croons during stage performances – it is ‘melodramatic and faintly ridiculous’, according to a source in the French capital.

The source added: ‘She acts like this for security reasons but does run the risk of sounding like an unpopular member of the French aristocracy.

Sounds like a good idea to me. Really...how many of the aristocrats in Washington DC have even a clue how the peasants they rule over actually live or how their legislations effect their constituents? Do you think Obama, Pelosi, or Reid ever shop(ped) at Walmart?

Back in the 1980's I was pumping gas into my car at a Shell station off of Hwy 59 in Sugarland, TX. I see recently elected Congressman Tom Delay gassing up his Caddy in the lane next to me. I had to do a double take just to be sure it was really him. I recognized him from his campaign ads and from the news.

I don't think this is a partisan issue. I think once these people get caught up politics and the accompanying political culture they become out of touch with the reality most of their constituents live in.

Not that I'm a big fan of Delay, but he actually started out as a pest exterminator and eventually owned his own pest control business before launching a political carrer. Most politicians are lawyers.
