Why is it propaganda?

It's a push but the local gay community to push their view on 5 year-old kids which little to do with whatever else is taught in kindergarten nowadays. Is there a single reason why that issue needs to pushed so early on kids who can't incorporate it?

There are divorced parents, dead parents, interracial parents, drunken and drug dependent parents, parents in prison . . . maybe they are mentioned too but why the emphasis on a single interest group and nobody notices it as blatant propaganda?

Your assumption of course is that those issues go ignored in schools.

Well, I don't really give a $hit. I just think it's a waste of time and resource to teach this at such a young age. Plus, I dislike how society won't let kids be kids. When I was a kid, all I cared about was doing my homework, Transformers, ThunderCats and He-Man.

Its this idea that parents are losing control of what "values" their kids are taught (ya know - cause being gay is immoral and wrong ).

Presumably because if those parents are ideologically opposed to the idea that a same sex couple have any business bringing up a child, they must endorse their kid bullying another because of it

If the kid doesn't know its wrong to bully people who have a different family background, then surely those parents must be endorsing that behaviour - as they want to keep their kids ignorant of a simple reality that they're going to come into contact with at some point in their lives.

Well, I don't really give a $hit. I just think it's a waste of time and resource to teach this at such a young age. Plus, I dislike how society won't let kids be kids. When I was a kid, all I cared about was doing my homework, Transformers, ThunderCats and He-Man.

Those days are gone. Now lets move on and see how we can best prepare our kids for the future. This sort of curriculum might not make sense in Texas, but in a community where gay families is very prevalent it does.

It doesn't have to be in the article - I'm merely pointing out that you're using ignorance of what the school teaches already as a justification for the idea that this new gay tolerance thing is somehow propagandist.

I don't know what they teach already - but I'm willing to bet that the schools primary focus is on what's best for the kids, and what facilitates the best learning environment for them.

Why do elementary school students need to know about adult relationships at all? They're very young kids -- let them be kids!

There's plenty of time later on -- junior high or high school -- for them to learn all about man/woman, man/man, woman/woman pairings. At the age elementary students are at, they won't even fully understand the concepts behind this.

Besides, I see it as wrong to teach these matters to kids in elementary school. Not because I see homosexuality as wrong, but because these kids won't have the mental faculties to make up their own mind. They'll hear whatever their teacher says and automatically believe it. Maybe some here think that's good, but that's essentially indoctrination.

I'd much prefer homosexuality issues were taught later on. Then perhaps students could make a decision on their own.

In my experience, kids do not believe something just because a teacher says it is so. However, laying that to one side, what exactly are the teachers going to be 'teaching' that is untrue? As I understand it, PD is correct, all that schools are trying to do is create an atmosphere where learning is conducive and that includes ensuring that all kids, no matter what type of home background they have, feel comfortable being at school and are not excluded/bullied by other kids because their home life is different.

I also have to suggest to you, that homosexuality is not a 'decision' that a student has to make either on their own, or with guidance. You either are, or you are not. The only guidance that is required is the guidance that teaches children to accept people for who they are, not reject a group because of prejudice.

but imo, I think the important aspect of this, is instead of teaching kids that there can be families with 2 dads or 2 moms, or 1 single parent.. is teaching them that if theres a kid with a 'different' family, to no prejudge it, or say they are sick/wrong/sinners/whatever #######.. i think it's more important to teach kids, yea, i play with such and such kid, his/her family has 2 dads instead of 1 mom 1 dad, so what? he/ she is still my friend..

of course most BS,hate and prejudice the kids will learn will be from their family, but I guess u can't teach an old person that hate and prejudice are wrong

It's called an opinion and yes most people are aware of local school boards' scope of power. Thanks for telling us what we already knew. Nobody called for some Federal governmental action.

I find it odd that some folks here can't see why brainwashing kindergarteners with political propaganda of their perference might be a bad idea. Amazing how countless generations managed to survive without gay penguin stories yet there's more tolerance for gays now than ever before- figure that one out.

I know you have some sort of illogical dislike of Texas and it shows. You don't have a fvcking clue about that state (not that it surprises me). You seem to cling to Hollywood stereotypes. If you had the slightest bit of knowledge beyond 1950s westerns, you'd know that Texas is actually a very multicultural state.

Have you ever been to Houston, Dallas, San Antonio or Austin? Probably not. If you had, you'd know better than to make moronic comments about Texas (such as I've seen you do).

I find it amazing that some folks can't understand that bullying is a real and pervasive problem in schools (always has-been) and that addressing some of the underlying issues that cause kids to see others as "different" or "deficient" can only be a good thing.
