My fiance (the petitioner) just mailed our I-129F Petition to VSC on May 5th. I live in Maceio, Brazil and there's no licensed doctor to do the medical exam for the K1 Visa here, only in Recife. Now, we all know it's not certain the date we'll get our NOA2, I have that in mind. But, it's not so easy for me to go to Recife because I have school and other duties during the week. Anyways, I do have a trip scheduled to Recife on June 24th and I was thinking of scheduling an appointment with one of the certified doctors in Recife and have my med done while I'm there. Do you think it's a good idea? How long is that exam good for? Is it too early? Any comment will be very much appreciated. Thank you.

The exam is good for 1 year.

I think you may need to wait until after the NOA2 and you receive your next set of paperwork/interview date. The paper work will list specific doctors/facilities that are approved and specific tests that need to be done and instructions for the results to be forwarded to the US consulate. I'm sure people who went through Brasil will be more helpful with the specifics, but the exam is definitely good for 1 year.

Take a look at this link Embaixada - exame medico and you will find the names for the docs in Recife. Why don't you give them a call, see the availability for an appointment and ask what should you do?

When I had my medicals, it was maily blood test for HIV and other stuff, paps and other feminine concerns - things that you might want to take under your medical insurance. Tell them your situation. I had to make two visits, one for the general examination - like blood pressure etc and to take back the results for the other exams requested, so he could fill our the paper work and give it to me (the misterious sealed envelope you have to take to your K1 interview).

Give them a call. It won't hurt, but be prepared to make the trips.

Good luck!

It won't hurt. My husband is from Manaus and there are no consulate approved doctors there. We contacted in a doctor in Rio who verified that my husband could have his blood tests and x-rays done in Manaus and then the doctor would do the rest - days before the interview. We did everything via e-mail with only one call. It went smoothly!
