I'm trying to fill in the I-130 and I-485 on the computer and can do it online when the browser is open,

but I don't know how to save it and go back to work on it again later. Also, when I download the pdf form

it of course won't allow me to fill in any lines. Isn't there an easy way to do this?

You need to download Adobe Acrobat Reader and use THAT to complete the forms on your computer. So instead of just clicking on the PDF links, right-click on them and choose save as, then open them from there.

It makes it easier if you keep a folder named "USCIS" or something along these lines in your documents folder, so you can find your documents all in one place.

Make sure to save your work often. Adobe software is sometimes a bit glitchy. Why should you use it anyway? The result is much cleaner and easier to read, it's sooo much easier to fix a mistake, and if you keep a copy of your completed forms on your computer, it's really easy to just print out another copy of your stuff if you need one.

Also applies to other documents: if you scan them on your computer rather than making a copy on some copier somewhere, it's really convenient to have a ready to print copy at hand.
