Hi,

We are getting married on May 9th and I just found out that my job will be terminated on May 22nd. We are planning on filing our AOS paperwork in June or so, what are the impacts if any if I lost my job? I do have money in savings but not sure what else I can do but write a letter that I am unemployed and actively looking for another job?

K-1 Visa

9-22-2008 - mailed I-129F

9-29-2008 - Received NOA1 in mail

1-09-2009 - Received NOA2 e-mail notification

2-09-2009 - Packet 3 Received

2-28-2009 - Packet 4 Received

3-02-2009 - Medical

3-23-2009 - Interview, 221g

3-31-2009 - Returned 221g additional evidence request

4-08-2009 - Received visa!!!

4-19-2009 - POE

5-09-2009 - Wedding

Hmmm that's a tough one! It is sooo close to filing... if you send in the AOS before you are officially laid off, you could theoretically not even mention it maybe. If you start collecting evidence now it's do-able... we sent in our AOS a week after getting married. :innocent:

If you do mention being unemployed in your application, I would suggest getting a co-sponsor just in case. :yes: Even if you have savings they can be picky about the financial requirements.

So sorry about the job loss! :crying: Good luck for both of you getting well paying, secure jobs ASAP!! :thumbs:

ELW has a good idea, a co-sponsor could make this a non-issue if you can get someone to say they will support you guys.

04/23/09 - Interview - Approved!

The I-864 and supporting documents need to be dated within one year. The I-864 is a "present tense" document. Comprendez vous? It is possible they could ask for updated documentation at the interview. By that time if you have not replaced your job you could have a joint sponsor
