Question about JFK

My SO is entering the US at JFK on Monday. Will he be exiting the airport near the gate where his plane came in or is there one central location for immigration/ customs/ security that he will exit the airport near?

Can I drive up to the gate like one can at the Philadelphia Airport or do I have to park and walk somewhere?

Any advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Timeline

When we met my husband's daughter we parked and walked to the international arrivals area. Just be aware that there are 2 places (with a fence) they may exit w/pay phones in between. In our case, the monitor said her flight would come out at A and she came to B (or whatever), so we did not see her and only when I went by the pay phones, there she was! Good luck.

i also see something called a 'cell phone lot' where drivers can stay with their car. it's positioned within 5 minutes of all terminals, so once the traveler calls, you leave the lot and drive to the terminal! this seems like a good option as well.
