Have a friend who has a valid green card that does not expire until '14. Problem is that she has lived abroad for the last 4 years and I'm afraid that she has abandoned her green card. Question is how will ins at POE know how long she has been abroad? Will they look for entry stamp into foregin country to see date?

AOS -K2 Based for 8 year old daughter...wife already has green card in hand and daughter was brought over via join to follow - K1.

Yes

Any ideas what would happen if she tried to enter on her green card and her passport does not have an date of entry stamp? Her old passport expired and has since gotten a new passport?

She's supposed to travel with the old one too.

Yeah, they usually have all entries on their system, the passport stamp is not the only way the government can verify how long a person has remained in or outside of the country.

4 years abroad is most certainly abandonment of her PR status and she'd likely have to use a visa or waiver program to visit the US instead.
