Hello everyone - well, it's been a long time since I was on VisaJourney, but here I am again, back at last! The reason is that we FINALLY received our AOS interview appointment, which is 2 weeks from now... As well as a laundry list of documents that we need to take to the interview. I have several questions that I hope all of you can help me with...

1) Do we need to prepare a NEW Affadavit of Support, or just take a copy of the original one submitted with the application?

2) How often does the USCIS do an FBI background check, and what delays have people experienced when this does happen?

3) Upon approval, does the immigration officer typically give you a I-551 stamp, and if so, is this proof of permanent residency while you are waiting to receive your green card?

4) Do we need an ORIGINAL of my husband's birth certificate? (The only translated version we have is a copy, not an original)

I'm sure I will come up with more questions in the next few days... But for right now, I would greatly appreciate all of your advice and answers to these questions! Many thanks,

-Kelly

1) Do we need to prepare a NEW Affadavit of Support, or just take a copy of the original one submitted with the application? we did *not* take a new affadavit of support, as the appointment letter stated "unless already submitted" and we had submitted that with our AOS application. i did take a copy of the original affadavit, however, the officer didn't ask to see it...only pay stubs and 2005 taxes and employment letters.

2) How often does the USCIS do an FBI background check, and what delays have people experienced when this does happen? i think they do the FBI check for every applicant, and my understanding is that there are a lot of folks stuck in the black hole waiting for this to be approved.

3) Upon approval, does the immigration officer typically give you a I-551 stamp, and if so, is this proof of permanent residency while you are waiting to receive your green card? we did not receive a stamp of any sort. Anthony's I-94 was removed from his passport, but he was allowed to keep his advance parole to allow us to travel. the officer specifically told us that unless we apply for EAD, he is not authorized to work until he receives the greencard.

4) Do we need an ORIGINAL of my husband's birth certificate? (The only translated version we have is a copy, not an original) we took originals of all documents, however, we were not asked to present them.

1. I would do a new one. Some people are asked for them. Too easy not to do.

2. Not sure

3. It varies from office to office. My wife got a stamp in Boston.

4. We were not asked for the original. Just don't meantion it at the interview.
