Renewing Ontario Driver's Licence

So, my Ontario driver's license expired and I can renew it without taking a test and I was going to do that before I go.

My question:

When I arrive in the states, do I just go and transfer my Ontario license to one from the state I am in??? Is it really this easy?? Or will I have to take the whole test over again regardless?

It depends on your States DMV ... here in CT they consider a CDN licence the same as an out of state licence so it was simple to switch over (just an eye exam) and i could do it from my K-1 visa.. but it varies depending on which State you go to.

Nevermind, guess I should have done my own research before I asked. I'm too dependent on this site! haha

Here is info in case, it may differ from state to state, but here it is from my state:

Within 60 days of moving here, you must obtain a Virginia driver's license. However, if you hold a commercial driver's license (CDL), you must obtain a Virginia CDL within 30 days.

If you are age 19 or older and you hold a valid driver's license issued by a U.S. state or territory, a Canadian province, France or Germany, you may not be required to:

* take the two-part knowledge exam or the road skills test

* show proof of successful completion of driver education;

or

* hold a learner's permit for 30 days.

However, you must pass a vision screening.

Canadian or U.S. licenses must be surrendered when you apply for a Virginia driver's license. Be sure to photocopy your out-of-state driver's license before surrendering it -- you may need it for insurance or licensing purposes.
