Hi folks

Just a quick pick of your brains - Im flying over to the States next week, for 3 weeks, to finally get engaged! While Im out there we're going to get a start on the whole visa application and I was just wondering if there is anything I need to take (apart from the engagement ring of course). I know I should take the ring receipt, and maybe a few photos and things as proof of the relationship (though I think she has plenty over there!) but I was wondering if theres anything else I need? A copy of my birth certificate or something like that? I just dont want to get out there and find Ive left some essential document at home!

Cheers

James

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...mp;page=k1guide lists all the items the petitioner needs to collate/gather for the initial filing. At this stage you do NOT need to take/send originals to USCIS - you WILL need them for the interview though (except the USC's birth cert - I was told when I attended that I didn't require the original of that even though I had it with me, lol)

Hi :)

all you need now is evidence of your relationship and one passport type photo, so take from home pictures, any previous flight tickets etc.

Birth certificate, police cert. and documents for your medical you will need later (after NOA2-approval of petition.

I would advice you also to have a look at the forms you will have to fill now (G325 a -see "guides"-"guides when you are engaged"-"getting a K1 visa"), because they require some information that you may need to check in your documents, which you are leaving at home.

good luck

thanks guys - Id alreadt checked the checklist but was a little worried Id overlooked something! Cheers for the speedy replies. Looking at the G-325A form that I need to fill in, how much detail do they want? Do they really want to know all my different temp jobs etc from over the last 5 years or can I just summarise? And the same with the residence from over the last 5 years - Ive done alot of backpacking so should I just put 'backpacking' or details countries etc?

 but just wish to clarify one thing. Not evidence of the relationship....What is required is evidence of having met within the required two year period. Evidence of a bona fide relationship is not required until the interview. Two seperate issues. Whilst evidence of the relationship is listed here on the guides for the I-129F petition, it is not a requirement of the I-129F.......but can assist a case depending on circumstances and any future potential red flags.

James

yep, I agree with agnes....take any past boarding passes etc plus keep the ones from this trip to submit as well.

James I also backpacked around the world and you don't need to put residences unless you WERE 'resident' in those countries..police reports (for UKCs) from foreign countries are required if you spent 12 months in one location - I was in Australia for 8 and they said I wasn't required to get a police report for that..

Cool - well I'll make sure I hold on to this boarding pass, though I foolishly threw the last one away. But I've still got a copy of the e-ticket so I'll print that out. As to proving that we've met in the last 2 years, is it considered taking the pee if my fiance-to-be and me have our picture taken holding a copy of that days newspaper?! Or is that a bit over the top? I was just trying to think of a way to prove when I last visted.

Jaylen - I was in Australia for 11 months myself (nice there isnt it :)) but Ive sent off for a police report from them already. Ah well - better safe than sorry.

Its a wonderful country :)

And re the photo, sure why not? lol But Id just do the ONE of those type..photos are just PART of the evidence not the whole..keep copies of any visa card reciepts showing payments made in your fiancee's home town, any hotel bills etc..if you don't have the original boarding passes then e-tickets copies are good - luggage tags too (and most people forget to take those off until they use the bags again so you might still have those)..all that good stuff

so just to clarify on the whole backpacking thing - when I fill in my G-325A I should just put 'Travelling' under the street and number column, then fill in the dates 'from and 'to'? And the same with the gaps in my employment history?? I checked the example form on the K1 guide which was great, but it didnt really indicate how to detail this sort of thing. It would just my luck to incorrectly fill in the first form of this whole confusing process!

If you have been married before, you will need a copy of your divorce papers for this stage.

Great idea on the luggage tags! I had never thought of that.
