When my wife has her interview in Lima Peru how long will it take to get her visa to beable to travel to the USA (providing its not held up for some reason).

Is there a way she can get it the day of or the day after the interview? ( seems like I read some where that it ws possible)

She will leave the country of peru from Lima and she lives along distance from lima it doesnt make sence to go back home and then travel right back to where she needs to be in the first place.

My husband and I went to the interview in Lima on Oct 3 and we had the visa on Oct 7th. There was a weekend in there too. Her best bet would be to stay in a hotel in Lima for a few days. You never know what's going to happen, especially with DHL, they were very confused and slow in our case and we almost didn't have the visa in time for our flight because of them.

I would say a week is safe. Keep in mind she's probably going to want some time to say goodbye to her friends and family, its very hard, I was there when my husband had to leave his parents and I cried right along with him, it was a big sacrifice he made to move to the US. It doesn't become "real" until you have the visa.

Good luck!

Isa had her interview on a Monday and we picked up the visa Wednesday afternoon at the Lima DHL office and left that night for the USA. That was probably cutting it a little close but if you plan about 5 days out after the interview you should be OK as far as booking a flight, baring there are no unforeseen hold ups and she has all of her paperwork in order. If you book you flight close to the interview date like I did, it can happen but just be prepared to pay the airline change fee if something comes up. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

We had the interview on the 1st of the month. Everything was in order. We were told to pick up the visa in 2 days. The visa wasn't issued until the 14th of the month. We have no idea why it took so long. And don't know when it was ready for pickup because we had returned to the jungle to say his goodbyes. When my husband called the embassy after more than a week, the lady told him it can take longer and not to worry. We actually had a carta poder for another person to pick up the visa and papers for us in Lima so we had them for our flight to the US. It would have been wiser to have the visa and papers sent to Iquitos. Hide sight is 20/20.

And if we made airline reservations to return rather quickly, that would have been a big problem.

Others have had theirs in two days.

Well we are limited on time and I was hoping that I wouldnt have to stay for so many days after her interview we kind of wanted to tour some of the US on our way home. Also the trip back and forth to Arequipa isnt cheap or easy. 17 hour bus ride or a nearly $200 air line ticket one way. that is $800 for he both of us

It all depends on your consulate. Some consulates will issue the same day and you can pick it up that evening. Some consulates will tell you that it will be delivered to you. Good Luck!!
