I apologize if this has been answered before. I see "touched"-on dates on member's timelines/signatures. What does this mean?

K1: 01/15/2009 (mailed I-129F) - 06/23/2009 (visa received)

AOS: 08/08/2009 (mailed I-485, I-765, & I-131) - 10/29/2009 (received GC)

Basically that means several things.

Either somebody pulled out your file and looked at it, or somebody moved the file to other locations...

For any reason, if somebody "touch" it, you will see the data changed from online system.

Sometimes it means something, and other times, it means nothing.

I have also read that sometimes touches are logged/reported, and sometimes they are not. In other words, USCIS does not consistently update your "last updated" or current status online. Is this true?

Yep! People are even approved without any change in status. They have no idea until they receive the NOA2 hard copy in the mail.

how do you know your petition has been touched?

  1. Register for an account on USCIS.gov.
  2. Add your case to your online portfolio referencing your receipt number
  3. Your case will be displayed in a table. One of the fields is "last updated". That is the date your case has last been "touched" (or at least the last date that USCIS reported your case as being touched).
