Personally I think this couple should go ahead and marry now. His commanding officer should be able to refer him to persons on base who are familiar with the steps for a US Citizen marrying a citizen of the Philipines. (I am operating under the assumption that his fiance is from the Philippines and not another nation).

Then file for a CR1 visa about 12 months out from the time they intend to live together in the US.

It sounds as if this couple has several things on their plate. This situation could actually work to their advantage if his wife manages to enter the US two years after the date of their marriage, thereby obtaining a greencard the moment she sets foot on our soil.

That's an excellent selection if it can fit their life plan.

Ok, in some ways yes and in other ways no. Frankly, the only reason I commented to begin with was to correct your reference to the Australian Embassy. The decisiion is up to the US Embassy or US Consulate in Australia. AIn my experience, Consulates and Embassies will process a visa case, it that's where the applicant currently resides.

By "Australian embassy" in my first post, I meant to say "US Embassy in Australia".

Sorry for any confusion. :)
