Hi,

I'm soon to be visiting my fiancée-to-be in the US, and we intend to file the I-129F when I'm there, so I want to make sure I have all the necessary information before I go. I have some questions, if I may...

The G-325a:

Applicant's residence last five years - I was still a university student 5 years ago, although all my bills and official documents were sent to my home (parents' address) and just forwarded to me. I also went on a gap year following university, and then at Bible College in Wales and in the US - do I need to put all of these addresses down? Between semesters I returned home - do I need to list all these dates? (it'll make the list rather long, and mean that my home address is given many times)

I'm 26 years old, but have only been in my present (and only) job since July. Should I put "student" and "voluntary worker" (for my gap year) in the employment section?

The I-129F:

My hometown has a longer name than can fit in the boxes given - the text box in which you type allows you to type as much as you want, but how will it print? What's the best thing to do?

My fiancée-to-be's first name is Katherine, but she usually goes by Kate - do we put "Kate" in "Other names used"?

Is it wise for us to file the I-129F while I am still in the US? There is a section asking when I last arrived in the US (Q12), and how long I'm authorised to stay etc. Would this pose problems/potentially cause delays?

Q14: We don't know yet where we're going to live once we're married. Should we just put my girlfriend's parent's house (which is where I stay when I visit, and where I'll presumably be staying until we marry once I arrive on the K-1)?

The guide on this website states that the answer to Q18 should be on a typed sheet. How long should this answer be? There's enough room for a short paragraph on the form itself...

My girlfriend and I first came into contact with each other on a Christian singles website (which isn't a "marriage broker" according to the official I-129F guidelines). Is it wise to speak in general terms (i.e. "a website for single Christians"), or would they want to know specifically which website we used?

Thanks so much for your help. This website is a wonderful resource!

Regards, Dominic

Another question about the G-325A:

My girlfriend runs a small Internet business, which she began before her present full-time job. Should she declare it as employment under the Employment section of the form?

1. Yes, I would put student, or volunteer so there are no gaps in the employment section

2. Use the first name that is on her passport/other documentation. If Katherine is used, put that. Yes, you can put "Kate" if you like under 'other names used'

3. Yes you can file while you are in the U.S. No it should not cause problems as long as you do not overstay.

4. You can put the parent's house, but you may also want to put the current address (it's ok if you move after you arrive) just to save time when mail arrives.

5. I wouldn't write a novel, but be detailed yet concise

6. We also met online, we put the name of the site. No worries.

7. Yes, if she was 'employed' she should put it on the employment section.

Good luck on your journey.

Thanks for the reply. Any thoughts, anyone, on what I should put for "Applicant's residence last five years" and regarding my hometown name being too long for the box? And, indeed, any further thoughts on the other questions/examples of what others have successfully put?

Use an additional sheet for information that cannot fit on the front. Annotate the entry with the question number on the extra sheet.

For addresses, you put the actual addresses you were at during the time frame requested.

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

Thanks again. So should I state all the "coming back home" periods between semesters at University/Bible College? (most were only a few weeks long) Technically I was only "visiting" home during the holidays and between semesters/university years. So, for example, my second year at Bible College was taken in the USA, but I flew back to the UK between semesters (between May and August).

Also, I was born in England/the United Kingdom. Is "UK" sufficient for the forms? "United Kingdom" fits in most of the boxes, but not all of them...
