When i'm in the States, I usually pick up a TracFone. The handsets are usually pretty poor, but they are only about $20.....try WalMart :D

Texts are definitely not a problem and you can call, and receive calls with the international option too. Easy peasy

I used to use an american cell to text but ask people to text back my uk cell. My UK cell still works here. I still get texts and free email and free mms on mine.

Ditto. I have AT&T here in the states for sending out texts ($.25 each) And a Vodaphone pre-paid UK SIM to receive texts at $.00 each.

A word about Tracfone, which is what I use in the states.

I had a Tracfone that could text to the UK, but when my service finally ran out, (while I was in the UK, coincidentally) I got a new Tracfone and found I can no longer send texts to the UK! Boo! I don't think they allow it anymore/on new phones.

Our naturalization timeline
1/12/2015 - Application sent to Phoenix service center by USPS priority mail

1/14/2015 - Package received in Phoenix

1/16/2015 - NOA date (hard copy received 1/22)

1/20/2015 - Check cashed

2/09/2015 - Biometrics

2/11/2015 - In line for interview

3/28/2015 - Hard copy interview notice received

4/29/2015 - Interview at Chicago field office - Approved!!!

5/22/2015 - Oath ceremony - Now a US citizen!!!!!!

Thank you, VisaJourney!!!!!

You just have to reset the international calls and texts options is all.

The missus is still going strong with hers :D

Right, well even tho some of the missus texts come through (on Tracfone) some are starting to get lost in the wireless blue yonder.

We've emailed them and apparently "international texts are not permitted and can be seen as a violation of the terms of the agreement" or some other such nonsense. Anyway, we've used it alright for a while but it seems like new agreements (which I don't really understand as it's pre-pay) won't do the job.

I'll have a look for something else and see what I can find for you. Apologies for the (half) wrong info before :(

Oh my! A violation of terms, eh?

Well, in my case, they stopped going through completely after I got my new phone; I got an error message and everything. Oh well.

Even after the email, our texts are still going through both from here to the US and back again......so i've no idea on this one!

As I said tho, the missus texts are still coming through fine and she is receiving mine ok. The best plan is to text from the UK and then just use that to reply to each time :D

I laugh in the face of their violation!

Until it stops working, of course ;)
