Is cardio 20-30 min 3x's a week and strength training 40 min 2x's a week not enough to really change your body?

Yes, but you are not going to get into great shape on that training, it is more maintenance; you have seen moderate results in 16 weeks. I suggest bumping your cardio to 45mins 4X a week and stick with the weight training at least 2-3X week. 3X a week would of course be a better split if you can do that. And diet i a HUGE part of it all of course............

A true person with good knowledge! :) This post caught my eye immediately...you seem to have a good comprehension of wellness....

I agree...my fiance and I train professionally...he is also the author of two health and wellness books he has written and published. It all depends on your goals... but the order of relevance and impact are as follows....

1-weight loss starts in the kitchen

2-it is further reinforced on the treadmill

3-weights is a buffer and the finishing touches...

30-40 mins of cardio session is just maintnce or for people with underlying health reasons....

True results are based on 45min to an hour of cardio 4-7 times a week. Depending on what your lifestyle and goals are... on off season...I train at 1 hour cardio sessions 6 days a week....getting into shape for an event I train 1-2 hours a day 6-7X a week....

Don't fool yourselves...a cardio session could be walking on the tread at a moderate speed for 1 hour....anything counts and is better than nothing...

Several small meals a day....5-7 times a day...

You can truly reform yourself in 6 weeks if you apply yourself.... don't always base it on the scale...muscle weighs more than fat.... you may not lose much weight, but your clothes can be falling off of you! :)

I commend anyone who makes the decision to get fit and sticks with it!!!! It's easy to do nothing about it...twice as hard to get moving!!!!

Good luck and congrats to everyone who is working hard towards their goals....feel free to PM me for any advice :)

ps. don't forget, once you start to see results....the motivation kicks into high gear and it becomes addictive!!!

Thanks for this.. this is encouraging.. I should say that I always walk (at a very brisk rate ) 20 min to work every morning following my work out, so I guess that could be added as additional movement in my life?

I think my problem is the kitchen.. need more discipline.. much more..

Walking is great. Even when I travel or can't get to the gym...I always locate the stairwell where ever im staying. Stairs are great...they target lower body, gluts, ham's and quad's and are a great cardio workout on the heart and fat burner. Doing 10 to 20 sets even at work on your lunch in the stairwell...

It doubles as cardio and toning :)

also a natural fat burner is green tea extract. Green tea is recommended often but in it's 'tea' format, you would have to drink 40 cups a day to reap benefits...taking this suppliment in large doses helps body metabolize food more efficiently and burn fat. I take about 600-900mg each morn...

The kitchen is the hardest thing for many! Even me! I'm pretty small, but I tend to eat out of boredom and not hunger. I have 2 vices that fill me when I want to eat and opt out for a 'filler' instead. They are high in sugars but better than cake! I fill up on watermelon and mini freezies... The watermelon is great and flushes those kidneys lol!

I went to use the stairs at one of my clients that I actually have to use the elevator for. So I find the stairwell, and start up the first floor, only to find they have all of the doors to each floor LOCKED!!!

The only one open is the one in the basement. Talk about #1 Panic (especially when you get the basement door and it says "DOOR MUST REMAIN CLOSED AT ALL TIMES" thinking that I'm going to set off some alarm when I do open it) and #2 TICKED OFF! Who does that?

Anyway...my attempt at doing some excercise at work definitely failed

HAHA! OMG, that was cute :) i'm not laughing at your panic..cause that would have scared to jeepers outta me! lol... yeah, you wanna make sure it's not a high security building lol! Maybe you're better off sticking to stairs that you know :)

Finding time to work out is sometimes really hard...even with kids, work...etc...the last thing you wanna do is come home and work out! I always get it out of the day first thing in the morning. Even today, on Sunday, I had my son and no access to child care, so we took my son to the track at the local high school...my fiance ran sprints as my son tried to keep up...I just walked he track...

I had a bad car accident years ago...and have permanent lower back problems...so I have to be careful not to do certain things to aggravate my back....walking briskly is good for all ranges....

I also have a treadmill at home...in front of the TV, time flies....it is very easy to fall off track or become complacent.... my ex husband was not an active person....I find that when you are surrounded by certain types of people...they start to influence your motivation. My fiance is extremely active, so on lazy days...he really pushes me which is good. I was able to bounce back after my first child...but it's always a fear after having kids...being able to bounce back....I hope if we have a second child...i'll be able to do it again :)

That's awesome! i know how you feel...i've had to work out in the morning since i changed jobs and am further away from home and the first two weeks killed me! i was in bed every night by 10 (i'm a night owl and am usually up at least until midnight). Keep it up...once you get past the first initial weeks you will be fine

Good for you. I completely envy your motivation.

One thing I can say - today I am going to buy watermelon and some freezies. Thanks for the tip. I eat out of boredom and have for years. I only eat during the day when hungry (when my fridge isn't 10 feet away)

OMG - E - that was funny.

Folks - I am hopelessly out of shape. Weightwatchers was a super guide for me personally to rein my eating habits in - no weird food or strange habits. I've always eaten small meals every 2-3 hrs my whole life so it even fit in with that.

Throughout my life though, being interested and staying interested in exercise of any kind has been a struggle. I was slim when I was young and despite an active family, I've never been drawn to exercise or outdoor activities. Hated gym class, would rather have read a book.

I've certainly had periods where I exercised regularly, but they don't last forever.

I'd like to hear from those who HATE exercise - how the 'H-E-double hockey-sticks' do you find the motivation???? I have so much that I am responsible for in my life and also other things that I enjoy that fill my time...where do I find the time?

Walking is all i really 'like' to do and I don't really have access to anything other then hand weights. Is walking good enough?

PS - I hate to sweat - i know, not helpful

^^Walking is good, better than nothing you know?! You are getting exercise by walking. I hate it too, I don't love to work out that's for damn sure. But what motivates me is taking classes at my local gym. Since it's at a set time, I have to go and the teacher pushes and motivates the class. It leaves me with no choice really, I can't really walk out half way  I do cardio and weight classes too, I actually sort of look forward to going to it now. There's still lots I'd rather be doing besides that, but I know I HAVE to for my health. I have high BP and osteoporsis at the age of 29, so I know I have to work out to be healthy.

Definitely not a high security building...just stupid building people! :P

I have found that I really enjoy weightwatchers...being able to eat what I like but in moderation, and knowing what the points are has helped me in just the couple of weeks I've been doing it.

I'm already down 3 pounds, and hope that it continues!

Once I start with my hockey season in the fall, I should start seeing more drop off. I would love to get back to the shape I was when I played hockey and fastball year round.

lot of places around DC for drop in hockey--of course most are during lunch hr!! LAurel does have a fri night drop in

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Exactly! Can't play during the day. Ashburn has one on Friday evening, and Kettler has a women's pickup on Sundays.

I also play in a league in the fall/winter. I'm playing out this year...Give my knees a break from 22 years of being a goalie

I started to play goal when i moved to DC. USed to sub time to time when back in Canada. Figured, just go full time here, lol Told the wife, goalies usually play for free.. So she said go for it. She had no clue my goalie equipment bills would lead to thousands of dollars, lol I havent played in awhile due to school, but hope to get back into it!! I used to go play regularly on wed/fridays at laurel in the mornings (0600-0800) then go straight to Mt Vernon and play. Good work out, but havent done that in like 2 yrs!! Played 1 winter on mens rec league, but hated playing soooo late at night. Was hardon the wife as well--get home around 0100, then she gets up at 0430!!! so said enough of that.
