I spent several years in Allegany County - New York going to College. The county itself though incredibly scary and I have a deliverance anecdote that haunts me till this day.

When I was in College it was the poorest county in New York but I believe it is has risen to third last now, due to the expansion of my College.

God no, and if I had I wouldn't brag about it, either.

That's a pretty jack@ss thing to say. I'm proud of living where I live. And I know lots of people who would love to live here. But, if that's the attitude you have just stay away. We don't like your kind around these parts.

No problem. I probably talk too fast to be understood down there, anyway.

Guess I'll have to scratch, uh, 'West Virginia' off the list I made of places I'm dying to see in my lifetime. Darn...

Well, scratch the mountains of NC off your list too since that's where I actually live. Don't worry about talking to fast for me. I've probably traveled more than a lot of people on this board. I don't have any problem keeping up. ;)

Just couldn't stay my @ss away!

My family is from W. Va. originally. My father was born and raised in Kenova, Wv. Heard all the tales and what not and am very glad that they started migrating. Pretty much WW II and Korean war came along and the draft brought many out into the world and that is how my father and many others ended up leaving. Most of family migrated to N.C. and had to spend many summers there.

I drive through the area a lot and it is some of the most stunning scenery anywhere in this country. Also met many people that are the most friendly. Also have been in the backwoods at times and the show is very correct. It has some of the most depressed conditions I ever seen. Talking to people in these areas has shown me that much of it they bring on themselves. Shame.
