Rich is from Paignton (Devon...Southwest England). I lived with him for 7 months in Torquay, England. No one on here is very close to what I consider home. I love it on the Southern coast! It's so beautiful...has anyone vacationed there? It seems to be a big tourist area.

I love the west country. Beautiful scenery, nice beaches and strong, tastey cider. :thumbs:drink_beer.gif Last time I went to Devon was for the eclipse about 5 or 6 years ago - absolutely spectacular.

One of these days I'm going to get Frances down to Somerset for Glastonbury Festival. :dancing:

It might amuse you to know that when I lived in London I met a number of people that referred to anywhere that wasn't Home Counties (the counties that border London) as "the north", including the West Country, most of which is further south than London is. :bonk:

LOL. I have a friend at Uni at Bournemouth, she loves it. I haven't been there since was a kid, though. Which is a shame, since living near Brighton I didn't live too far way. Does Bournemouth have a sandy beach? If so I might take Mark down there, to prove we have them!

Yea bournemouth has sandy beaches that is for sure! however..it is not english sand...its imported. from spain i believe! if u can imagine that! I'm going to brighton next week, never been before.

Nice! We'll have to make sure we visit.

Brighton is just pebbles. But it's a fun city. I loved going there for shopping, nights out or just to hang out. One of my favourite things to do was to go down to the beach on a Friday evening with my friends with a few bottles from the offie. :)

Oh, I think I can win on the people "not knowing where your accent is from"-thing. One time when I was over visiting, I asked this hispanic gas station attendant if I could use the bathroom, like several times. But he just couldn't understand me. So I just gave up and decided I'd hold on until we got to another gas station. My sister-in-law came out and asked if I'd used the bathroom yet, and I told her what had happened. So she went back in and got the key and told me the attendant had thought I was German.

We are in the Midlands, a small town called Tamworth which is north of Birmingham and just outside Lichfield. I say Lichfield cos most people know where that is because of the cathedral there!

Hubby is from Rockford (just outside of Chicago), and he loves it here in UK! When I first met him he was adamant that no way was he going to leave his country and move to the land of 'bland' food!! :P

He sings a different tune now and loves most things about UK - he says that he misses the 'chicken coop' that we used to go to where we could get a huge plate of chicken wings with different sauces - mmmmmm, was nice I must admit.
