When I started this visa process, my roomie started looking for a condo. Well, she found one! We vacate our apartment in a month. I had plans to stay in a friend’s vacant basement suite, but they’ve had a good offer for a long term rental, so they have generously offered me the use of their guestroom instead. They are being really nice about it, and I am sure it will be helpful for them to have me there for a while anyhow(dog-sitting!) but who knows how long it will take now before I can actually move to the USA?

It isn’t my comfort I am worried about – I’d be happy to pitch a tent in their backyard! I’d just hate to become a burden on them by overstaying... There is only one bathroom after all! I guess I can make it up to them by cooking dinners and keeping the wine flowing! But I can’t stay there forever. Once August is over, I will have to re-assess the situation and strain for them.

I hope the processing isn’t delayed much longer with this switch to California etc… or I will end up like the chick on Grey’s Anatomy who lives in the boiler room at work!

I am not whining... I know there are people in worse situations out there.

If it's bugging you, offer to pay them "rent." After college and a disasterous job loss, my bestest bud in the whole wide world saved my @ss by letting me stay in their basement while I got back on my feet. I paid them what I could depending on the job I was working at the time. Definately saved me from the horrors of having to stay with my parents and gave them a little extra money to pay down their debts.
