Medical Report Question: Which tests did you take ?

Folks:

My fiancee is getting ready to get her medical done in Kolkata for the upcoming K1 interview. What is funny is that each place she calls seems to require a different set of tests/vaccinations she needs to complete.

Is there a "must do" list or it pretty much depends upon the physician. Also, is the list different for K3/CR1 vs K1 (immigrant vs non-immigrant visa. Understand K1 is treated in a lot of ways as Immigrant visa). Just wondering if they make a distinction when it comes to medicals.

Can you guys pls share which tests you took ? The list looks like the Declaration of Independence. Don't want my fiancee to take a gazillion shots if she is not required to. I understand a lot of you have already gone through this recently.

CJ/Siyaram/waithatter/Trinket/wisdom/others/.... would you mind sharing which one's you had to ? Thx a bunch.

i did mine at mumbai. i am not sure if the test are the same for both visa but as far as i noticed all the people who ahd come there had to undergo the same procedure. so i am assuming it doesnt matter which visa you use in the immigrant visa category.

i had a blood test - hiv , australia antigen( hbsag) and vdrl. they dont tell what they are doing but they collected blood only once.

next was a chest xray.

medical examination- they ask you if are pregnant. do a simple examination. tell the doc if you are taking any medications. it doesnt go against you

vaccinations- i am a doctor. i didnt have any records of any vaccines taken. i told her that. it actually doesnt matter.she asked if i had chicken pox(varicella) . if you have never had chickenpox then you need a vaccine for it. otherwise all of us there had to take MMR and Td. two pricks (preferably take it on different arms)

the report and xray is sealed and handed over to you. i didnt have a sputum test. guess if your xray shows some lesion then you may be suspected for it. i dont think you will have any trouble. submitted report to vfs. still have the xray with me. will take it on 10th feb for interview

hope it helps

all the best

For vaccinations, it is my understanding that there is a set list that they follow. My husband had the usual Varicella (chicken pox), TD (Tetanus) and MMR (measles, mumps and rubella). Both MMR and Varicella require a second dose several weeks after the first. (The Indian doc didn't tell him that so we found out only when we were getting the Vaccination Supplement from a civil surgeon here in USA - the doc said he could not give it until hubby had second dose.)

I think also that medical is the same for all visa types. However K1 visa (which is called non-immigrant) does not require the vaccinations, they can be done in USA (which is more expensive so better to have them done in India itself). Immigrant visas like CR1 and IR1 require the vaccinations before leaving India. K3 I'm not sure about.

The attached file show the guidelines followed for vaccinations:

that's interesting now. My wife had three vaccinations, but wasn't told to come back for any more. I wonder if this is a problem.

It's not a problem. They must have taken blood sample of your wife and they do the blood test. They determine which vaccines to take depending upon the blood sample, age and sex of the intending immigrant.

In my case, I had to take 2 vaccines, I guess one was MMR and I forgot the other one. Another girl who was with me had to take 3 vaccines and she was asked to continue her vaccination after entering US (I guess it was something like, you take one shot today and the next shot 3 months later)

Anyways she was a K-3 applicant and I was IR-1 but both of us went through the same procedure.

Very good information, and I agree. I too was administered two vaccines and only once. Not sure about medical point of view, but it was not a problem in the immigration process. The question of second dose was never brought up.
