Learning to drive in the US

I need to go through the process of getting a driver's license (and learning to drive) for my wife. She didn't drive at all while living in the Phils so she doesn't have any experience. Driving in Phils is a little extreme so maybe it was good she doesn't have that experience.

Please share your suggestions and experiences with teaching your wives to drive.

If she's never driven before I suggest enrolling her in a drivers school. They can be

expensive but worth it if she has no experience.

I was fortunate my husband already knew how to drive. He had no probs getting

his license. Driving in Egypt is beyond extreme! He had to tone down a few things!!!

If you don't want to go the drivers school route, then have patience and take her

to a huge parking lot with few cars and teach her. Get her a driving test manual and

help her study.

Good luck!

Claudeth just took driving lessons but still feels very uncomfortable driving in traffic and especially on the freeways. On top of that she really has difficulties with the truck and the space around it.

Where we live there are no driving schools and I had to teach my wife to drive.

If there is ANY way possible you can have someone else teach your wife DO so no matter what the cost!!!

If you can't get anyone else buy a LARGE supply of Valiums.

Drop a handful along with a beer chaser before every lesson.

Have a marriage consular on standby also!

The worst thing is I'm NOT joking!!

i suggest you go to a vacant parking lot or vacant village and teach her the basic. if she knows how to drive already then either you take her out to the streets or enroll her in a driving school. this is what i've been doing and i think it's better than enrolling to the driving school right away but it also depends on your preference.

I suggest you get her a driving instructor if you can afford. I never knew how to drive at all. When I came here hubby teach me how to drive but he is more nervous than me, there are times also that he raise his voice on me that makes me more nervous and loss my concentration...even loss my desire to learn how to drive, I took my actual road test last year and pass it for the first try.

My wife got her Driver License on Friday in Texas

She rec'd her EAD in mid January and we were able to get her learner permit.

What I did.

I gave her basic driving skills, then I hired an Adult Driving school in Dallas.

They charged $40 per hour, which included pick up and drop off at our house, and use of their car with Driver Instructor.

She took 2 total classes for a total of 4 hours.

Then she paid for her last 2 hours which included going to DPS for Driver Test on Friday. She left around 5:30 am and texted me by 8 am and said she had passed.

Pretty easy ordeal.

i would suggest for her to watch this video to get an idea on US driving: http://www.youtube.com/user/CaliforniaDMV

Also download driving manual from your state. And tell her to familiarize herself with your area.

Make sure you taught her all basic function of your car before letting her drive out.

And driving is a skill.. it requires practice.

I have been driver here in US since January...

My Bing is going to take drivers training in the Phils. Its a lot cheaper than here and I am gladly paying for it. Although ... after seeing how they drive there I'm not so sure I want her to learn there :) Just kidding! Better she learn the basics from someone with more patience than me :D

Of course, they can't teach her how to drive in the snow there!

Except for guts, I have to discard my knowledge of driving from the philippines. Its quite different driving here and in the philippines...
