He doesn't though. Just inspects the quality of the work of others. Given his rather bizarre set of priorities, one has to wonder just how useful these inspections have been. Mind you, I have to admire someone who remains on the payroll despite frequently physically "throwing people off the job by the shirt collar". As if this outward display of displeasure somehow improves his job performance. I have to say, I would be somewhat wary of employing someone so ill able to maintain a professional demeanor.

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

I worked Construction for about 6 months when I first moved to the US (friend of my MIL owned a surveying/construction business). Worked a couple of sites in Downtown LA laying pipes for new buildings. There wasn't anyone that didn't work a full days work, or who didn't display a professional working demeanor, even (gasp!) the hispanics.

Only source of friction was the site manager (an Iranian exile) who had terrible people management skills and screamed at people who didn't do exactly what he said. Unfortunately he wasn't terribly good at explaining exactly what he wanted...

to inspect the quality of work done by others, one must be capable of doing it himself, first.

bizarre priorities? the priorities are clearly spelled out in the code, whichever code the work is being performed in accordance with. in the case of bridge building, it is usually AWS D1.5, which invokes ASNT and ASTM specifications freely.

i could tell you stories that would make your hair stand on end, sweety. spud wrenches look entirely different when approaching the side of your head at 30 MPH. the construction world is not a kindergarten with nannies minding the kiddies. people get killed on construction sites all the time. construction work is something like 50 times as dangerous as police work, and not all of those deaths in construction are really accidents.

professional demeanor is whatever is appropriate for the circumstance. it can be worn like clothing. if i'm meeting wen jaibo (premeir of china - wanna see the picture?) i do not act in the same manner as when handling a crew of high school drop-out roughnecks. working in the office in a small pennsylvania town is somewhere in between.

Patronizing me will not score you any points mate.

As for your understanding of 'professional', I have you down as a bully, you have all the credentials in the proper order.

In NYC at least - People get killed on construction sites due to piss-poor safety regulations and sub-par safety inspection (assuming they actually do the inspection, rather than simply fudging the paperwork).

Don't be silly, construction sites are raw, edgy places where the White man must do, what the White man must do for fear that the Hispanics will bury you under 50ft of concrete. Got to crack them whips boys, those uneducated manual workers gonna get ya!

The construction site is on the 'edge' of civilized society.

actually, that failure has been attributed to poor engineering in regard to the gussets used to stabilise the shape of the span girder beams. the engineering firm that did the work had sub-contracted that segment of the analysis to some indian firm...

An indian firm in the 1960s? Really? Funny, that's not mentioned in any of the NTSB reports. Shouldn't the fine white folks at Svedrup & Parcel caught the mistake?
