Hello VJ members,

My name is Alex. I haven't posted for a while. I have an urgent question. I'm now in US. I'm married on K1 of course. My "A" number on my white card in my passport expires Jan 26th. We haven't applied yet I must say we almost gathered all the paperes. So my question is will I not be facing deportation because we haven't applied for green card before 26th of Jan. Please help. It's urgent. Can anybody help me??? What should I do??? Thank you for your attention.

You won't be facing deportation. You should do the AOS as soon as possible to enjoy the benefits of a legal, permanent resident.

No one is going to come looking for you, but if you miss the deadline for filing AOS, you could be in a bind as far as travel is concerned if you want to leave the US.

Please, apply as soon as possible. No one is going to come knocking on the door on the 27th, but as Brad points out you are kind of "stuck" until you get things going. Also, I would expect some questions about this at the interview. Maybe you can get it done by the 26th??? Good luck

I agree no one will come looking for you, but without the pending I-485 application you are technically "out of status" when the I-94 expires and are subject to deportation....

Exactly, and the OP may be trapped in the US for a longer than necessary time while the AOS is adjudicated. I know one Ukrainian immigrant that waited three years for her status to be cleared up this way. Although that isn't a common timeframe based on what I have read here, it would be a real shame.
