What we need for the Interview

Hello!

We have our AOS interview on Thursday and I was just gathering and re-going over the checklist of what to bring to the interview.

On the list, it says that we need "Your petitioner's birth certificate and your petitioner's evidence of United States Citizenship or Lawful Permanent Resident Status". I am a US citizen and I am petitioning for my husband to get permanent residency. Therefore, are they talking about my birth certificate and proof of citizenship status?

I just wanted to make sure they didn't mean my former step dad's birth certificate and proof of citizenship because he helped co-sign the affidavit of support with us, and I didn't know if this might make the a "petitioner".

I just got more confused because a few items down it says that we need "your spouse's birth certificate and proof of citizenship" and I didn't know why they'd list it twice. Maybe for people who aren't based on marriage?

Thanks so much for you help, I really appreciate it!

Have a great day :)

Hi, the "petitioner's birth certificate and your petitioner's evidence of United States Citizenship or Lawful Permanent Resident Status" means YOURS since you are the petitioner of your husband. You are the one sponsoring him, so, bring your birth certificate and your US passport to the interview then~ I would suggest you to make a copy of your birth certificate also (just in case they ask for it).

Good Luck!! Try your best to be prepared and bring all the evidence/documents you have like photos, bank statements, insurance card.... etc.......don't mind making copies since you never know, they might really ask for it.

If you have a co-sponsor I would suggest taking proof of their US citizenship as well - it is a requirement but I cannot say for sure if you need an original document or a copy for them, I'm not in the same position but maybe someone else has been
