My spouse has received her "welcome letter" on 29th Dec. 2008 after entering US on IR-1 visa. I saw the status on USCIS.gov and green card has been ordered up for her. However, we have not received our Social security card in mail (even after selecing "YES" to question 33a on DS230)? So we have decided to make a visit of our local SS office. I read the instructions on SS-5 form and it is not very clear on what evidence they require to get new SS? They ask for at least two documents to prove age, identity, and U.S. citizenship or current lawful, work-authorized immigration status. But with Green card still not in hand, the only evidence I have is her passport stamped with CR-1 visa. Does anyone know if it's sufficient to apply for Social security card?

thanks,

CS

She will need her GC to get her SSN!

EAD will work also but she doesn't have that!

K1 denied, K3/K4, CR-1/CR-2, AOS, ROC, Adoption, US citizenship and dual citizenship

!! ALL PAU!

This is incorrect. All you need is your passport with the visa and stamp inside. Take it to your local social security office. Explain that she came through POE on such and such a date and that she hasn't received her SSN yet. Ask them to look her up in their system to see if her details have been updated into the system and whether she has been assigned a SSN yet.

If she is in the system and has been assigned a SSN ask them to give you a print out. Verify the mailing address and the card should arrive a week or so later.

If she is in the system but hasn't been assigned a SSN complete a S-5 application form to get an SSN.

Does anyone know if it's sufficient to apply for Social security card?

I'd take along a few other bits of ID such as her birth certificate, marriage certificate or home country issued driver license just incase they ask to see extra
