I am in California also, so kinda familiar with the system. All you have to do is to fill out the application as usual on the application they will ask you if you are a california resident and on the form it has a place to put your california driver's license or Non driver's ID that's all you need, and you are set to go you don't even have to ask them for anything as soon as they process the form it will transact you as a california resident. It only gets tricky if you are applying for financial aid then they go into more details. Good luck

I know a friend who lives in NY but her kids have california ID, once they graduated they were able to come to school in california without having to pay out of state charges. you just have to be knowledgeable

Edit to ask: did you ever apply for california driver's license or non driver ID?

Nikita2Charles,

It's really good advice!

Yes, I have California driver's license. It was issued in March 2006. How do you think, will it do? I am not planning to apply for financial aid.

what school did you apply to? i checked with the local community college here and they require more than just the CA driver's license for proof of residency (i.e. bills in your name with the CA address...etc)

Well, after 3-month battle with PG&E my name is finally on the bill :)

We had all this trouble with PG&E in order to bring more documents to our AOS interview. It is recommended to have bills with both names. If the bill helps me with enrolling to college, it would mean we did not fight in vain (we were not asked for any bills during the interview)
