no, it [the government] 's just representative of the majority!
Suggest you watch the news or read some opinion polls before you make a claim like that. Not everyone thinks the same way you do ;)

True that. The days where this government represented the majority (no telling if it ever did) are long gone.

Not coming back anytime soon either ;)

Someone ought to buy you a "jump to conclusion" mat.

Seeing as you find it so objectionable for people to criticize the government, why don't YOU move somewhere where noone criticizes the govt. Russia for instance.

As I said, I've made my position clear where I stand - Liking the country does not mean you should like the government or refrain from subjecting it to criticism, although as I said YOU brought it up in this thread. My whole commentary on this issue has been on a general ethical issue, which you've seen fit to ignore in your desire to attack me for what you clearly perceive as unpatriotic sentiments.

In any case, I've got stuff to take care of today that doesn't include arguing over small points of semantics about what you think I believe.

Have a nice day. I'm sure you won't.

no, it's just representative of the majority!

If only half of the voters voted Bush and not everybody voted then by definition Bush does not have an actual majority. He has a slim majority of those that were able to vote.

As for the conspiracy regarding the actual election i believe you just need to look at the lack of a paper trail and the inability to check it.

I would also like to point out how you quote if you don`t just reply to. [ quote ] text to quote then [ /quote ] (no spaces.

As for immigrants and non immigrants and criticism of government i was always under the impression that criticism of state was vital for a democratic society. I know such a society does not exist but i was under the impression that is how things were meant to be at least.

It's just a shame that Captain America here doesn't understand that.

as we often say here - america, love it or leave it. you obviously don't love it. your so called ethical debates are always the same, with you taking the position you are right, with you criticizing anyone with a view opposite of yours. some debate.

i compare it to your fantasy land versus to the real world. grow up. face reality. people die in war. atrocities happen. there are injustices in the world. and no amount of whining on your part will change it.

and i'm having a nice day already, nothing like making major overtime on the weekends

It's just a shame that Captain America here doesn't understand that.

It's the one that has always bugged me about the US, and still bugs me now that I live here. If one raises concerns or criticisms about the gov't, or on the "war" on terror, one is immediately labelled unpatriotic or un-American, or Fishdude's signature :P. I would think that holding one's elected officials accountable for their actions/laws is one of the most democratic things one could do!

America is a huge place and filled with a wide range of people from all over the globe. A melting pot of cultures. My wife and step daughter live there and i love them. I have fun there. I enjoy lots of things about America. Not liking a countries political system is not a reason to leave it. I don`t care for the political system in the United Kingdom but i love other things about my home country. You have an odd outlook on life.

Which part of

Liking the country does not mean you should like the government or refrain from subjecting it to criticism, although as I said YOU brought it up in this thread.
do you find unreasonable? I told you what I believe as clearly as I can. Take it or leave it.
your so called ethical debates are always the same, with you taking the position you are right, with you criticizing anyone with a view opposite of yours. some debate.

Actually you'll find that's pretty much what most people do when discussing anything

face reality. people die in war. atrocities happen. there are injustices in the world

Sure but a responsible society takes responsiblility for its mistakes, does it not. Which is why we have international courts and independent investigations. I don't think that's hard to understand.
