For starters....

They earn their seat at the table.

In Kennedy's case it's another "gift" to the rich and well connected.

I believe any person who can legally become Senator IS qualified.... if "the people" elect them,

in this case we have no election so her qualifications (err... lack of) should absolutely be considered, as with any appointment.

Of all of the well qualified liberals in NY, how is it they must choose a clearly unqualified out-of-stater?

Really? What about the Bushes, another wealthy, well-connected political family - did they earn all of their success? Money takes care of money, no matter conservative or liberal.

And Caroline was born in NYC and has spent much of her life there and on Long Island. That might not be "real" NY to upstaters, but she's not a carpet bagger like Hillary.

She's 51?! Wow, I thought she was a bit younger. Why does she look so bad, why couldn't she take after her mom like JFK Jr did. Shoot.

Diana

Funny, I always thought Caroline looked a lot like her Mom and Jr. looked a lot like his dad.

A candidate for senator must be:

1) 30 years old

2) A citizen of the United States for at least 9 years

3) An inhabitant of the state in which he/she is running at the time of the election

We mustn't forget Sweet Caroline isn't being elected, she is being appointed.

Perhaps someone can name another appointment to govt office where "job skills" are not a consideration?

Then change the legal process by which Senators are replaced. Truth be told, she could probably win the election you want either way.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.
