I get telemarketers call through prepaid cell phone. Switch over to a monthly service. Still get them. Most is regarding vehicle warrenty expiration. After registering, I didn't receive any more solicitation calls.

I get that warranty ####### also....My vehicle has 2 years warranty left, before the power-train warranty takes over. Problem is, they keep calling from different numbers, so I resort to not answering calls that I don't recognize. Although I am happy in my job, I do occasionally apply to others, yet find it difficult to differentiate between BS calls and legit ones. I wind up using voicemail messages for validation. It should not come to this, given that we pay for airtime. Where is the freaking law on this?

Weird coincidence because I just started getting calls from a survey company in Utah (I called the number back). I've had my phone turned off since I sleep in the daytime usually. They've called at least 4 times now. When they do catch me awake I'll play along until I can get my phone positioned by the air horn on my Semi. :D

That info seems a bit stale Becca.....Is there any truth to this? It appears this warning surfaces every year..

Well, at the bottom of the page is a claim the page was last updated 12/11/08.

Ha, wonder if they really enjoy hearing screw you when they call me, especially these guys that claim to be part of police department retirement group and want your credit card number. Our police hear as well as all the other city workers retire at 55 with 75% pay, do they really need more of my money? But claim they will send you a card that I can show if stopped by the police to avoid getting a ticket, how stupid to they think a person is?

Then I get a call from my kid's college asking for an addition contribution to help ease on tuition payments, could not help but say, you already increased the tuition by 6000 bucks per year in the last couple of years. Why don't you call my kid after she graduates and is making big money for a contribution? Hurting right now just trying to make these extra charges, and you are asking me to hurt even more?

Also love these so called charitable institutions that beg for money where it's reported only 8 cents of each buck actually is used for charity. Ha, just tell them, I know people that need help and help them, but they get 100% of my money. Not just a tiny fraction of it.

If you own a Blackberry, then purchasing a copy of Antair Call Screener would be your best bet to avoid unwanted calls. You can download it to your PC (and install it through a USB connection) or you can have it sent over-the-air (OTA), which is much easier. I wouldn't recommend doing the latter, however, if you don't have an unlimited data plan.

Unfortunately, I don't know of any software that'd work with "regular" cell phones. I'm sure there's something, but I'm not aware of it.
