Hi

We got married on 12th Dec and now need to apply for SSN and AOS

Have the following questions

1) I want to change my last name(wish to have my husband's last name). How do i do that? How long does it take--As far as I know there's no court proceedings for that, I just used my husband's last name in every AOS paperwork and when I apply for SSN , state id, driver's license and other licenses I just show my marriage certificate

2) should i first change my name and then apply for SSN and AOS--If you wanted to use your husband's name then thats the better way to do it so you wont have to change it later

3) Do i need to have SSN to apply for AOS or can i start the process for AOS immediately--No you dont need SSN for AOS processing to be done "immediately" but if you want to provide it, its your choice

4) i m planning to apply for AOS ,EAd and advanced parole together.I believe i just need to fill up the forms( i-485,I-131,I 765,I 864 and G325)--YES and I-693

a)Does the I 864 have to be filled my my spouse(US citizen) ?--yES provided he is the sponsor

B) does my spouse(US citizen) also fill up G325--actually in the instruction he dont have to but in mine my hubby filled it out

5) Where do i have to provide vaccination records--In your home county during your medical they mustve given you a paper (vaccination worksheet), give a copy of that to the Civil Surgeon who will need to fill out the I-693 even just the vaccination part, provided that you just did your medical within 1 year. Some people dont do this and dont have an RFE later but some does , so it varies and its better to be prepare than sorry

thanks

1) I want to change my last name(wish to have my husband's last name). How do i do that? How long does it take. Just bring your marriage cerfiticate in SSA and request for a name change. The new card will usually come after a week.

2) should i first change my name and then apply for SSN and AOS. You can do that simultaneously. You can use your married name in applying for AOS.

3) Do i need to have SSN to apply for AOS or can i start the process for AOS immediately. YOu can apply for AOS without SSN. But it is better to apply for SSN 2 weeks before your I94 expires. And as I see it in the posts here, it is better to apply with your maiden name first then have a name change later or when you get EAD or GC. You might need SSN to apply for driver license, joint accounts, medical insurance and stuff.

4) i m planning to apply for AOS ,EAd and advanced parole together.I believe i just need to fill up the forms( i-485,I-131,I 765,I 864 and G325). Accomplish your I693 also.

a)Does the I 864 have to be filled my my spouse(US citizen) ? Yup, he will fill that up.

B) does my spouse(US citizen) also fill up G325. No, he does't need to.

5) Where do i have to provide vaccination records. Go to a civil surgeon for the medical exam, they will transfer your vaccine record in the I693 form.
