What is an extension letter?

Just recently, we submitted our I 751 package and received our biometrics appointment letter shortly afterward. I have read throughout some of these threads that people have also received another NOA notice which they call an "extension letter". Can someone clarify this for me? I'm not sure if it either got lost in the mail, they just have changed policies, or they will send it after our successful biometrics appointment.

Thanks again for all of the great information and support, I have learned so much from this site!

You indicate in your timeline that you received your NOA on 11/27/2008. That is the extension letter. If you look at yours again, it should read "Your conditional resident status is extended for a period of one year....."

I looked at it again and it basically is a biometrics appointment letter; I got confused because it also says I-797 Notice of Action in the upper right hand corner. The heading says ASC Appointment Notice but it does not mention "Your conditional resident status is extended for a period of one year....." I noticed some people in the VSC compilation list have also not received NOAs but have received biometrics appts so I guess I am in that group.

If you need to show proof of legal status and have still not received the NOA extension letter, you can make an infopass appointment and they will give you a I-551 stamp if you explain that you never received the NOA.

Edit: Oh, and I recognized your screen name and did a post history to remind myself how I knew you. Movie pong! :P

You'll need the letter or a stamp once your GC expires. That's all you will have to show you can work or travel.

K1 denied, K3/K4, CR-1/CR-2, AOS, ROC, Adoption, US citizenship and dual citizenship

!! ALL PAU!
