Know what is in the direction in which you shoot. Also know how far a bullet can travel. When deer hunting on a smaller farm that means you might want to go with slugs in a shotgun versus a rifle. Many counties only alllow shotguns anyway because they may be too populated. In rural areas with assorted developments around right next to neighboring farms, there may be certain directions you can't shoot because houses may be in the distance. Yes, you may legally be able to shoot that close to the houses but that doesn't mean you can shoot towards them. Morons like that ruin it for the rest of us. These are the same idiots who shoot each other because they don't pay attention to where the others in their group are and assume that if they see what they are after they can just go ahead and shoot.

Of course on another note, was it a hunter or some idiot on neighboring land fireing off a shot. Again without paying any attention to what is in front of him. Just saying that because it seems whenever something happens a hunter is always the first one blamed. Of course even if it is that doesn't meen that's how we all are.
