Hiya guys, just looking for some advice.

We are thinking of taking a cruise to Alaska for our honeymoon.

My question is this:

Am I right in thinking that we can't leave the US unless you have advanced blah blah...(this is after the k-1, wedding, and starting of the AOS)

So we would not be able to depart out of Canada..correct?

But if you depart from Seattle that would be fine?

Anyone take a cruise to Alaska?

Ohh and anyone have any experiences with a honeymoon in Hawai...I know a lot of you have.

How is the weather in June?? Really hot?

Ya'll are great!! :star:

No, you can't go through Canada, but you can go through Seattle.

Always been my dream to take an Alaskan cruise... know many people who have, but I've never been.

Never been to Hawaii... prefer cooler temps to tropics. Have heard, though, that becasue of the ocean, it's quite comfortable in June.

Enjoy!!

8-30-05 Met David at a restaurant in Germany

3-28-06 David 'officially' proposed

4-26-06 I-129F mailed

9-25-06 Interview: APPROVED!

10-16-06 Flt to US, POE Detroit

11-5-06 Married

7-2-07 Green card received

9-12-08 Filed for divorce

12-5-08 Court hearing - divorce final

A great marriage is not when the "perfect couple" comes together.

It is when an imperfect couple learns to enjoy their differences.

Thanks!

We prefer the cooler temps too.

I'd really like to just take a tour of Alaska but those seem outragous in prices.

What got me thinking was an Orbitz ad. Not bad prices for next year! You should look into it and save a bit!

Nothing better then living a dream!

I'd like to go to Hawai too...but Alaska would be first pick I think!

I don't know anything about cruise departures from the U.S.A. or Canada, but we've been to Hawaii in June!

We were in Maui and my understanding is that the weather is pretty much the same all year round there. It was in the mid to high 80's. Humid. There was little air conditioning as well! Everywhere we went, I'd be complaining about the heat, and residents would say, "we have natural air conditioning, the ocean breeze!" Phoohey! Not cool enough for me... (I'm used to -40 degree winters)

The rules for a K-1 state that the visaholder cannot leave the US unless they have AP. Nearly all cruises that depart from a US port are flagged to another country (Bermuda, Panama, Liberia, etc) so they don't have to follow US rules & regulations. But the US requires that they dock in a foreign port. In order for a ship to only do business within US ports they must be US flagged.

So, does the mandatory visit to a foreign port mean you have "left" the US? I dunno.

As far as I know, there is only one US flagged cruise line in the US: NCL America, which has a cruise visiting all of the Hawaiian islands There used to be a Hawaiian islands cruise with a foreign flagged ship, but due to the rules they'd have to sail all the way down to Fanning island, which is a British territory.

Very good to know!!

Will have to do some more digging on this topic! Thanks!

even an Alaska cruise that departs from Seatle *may* dock somewhere in Canada along the way for a day excursion, and/or *may* need to stop in Canada simply because you're travelling thru Canada to get back to the US. If you follow.

Find out first if there are any customs/immigration stops or excursion stops. If there is, you may need to hold off on that cruise until AOS is completed and green card is in hand.

divorced - April 2010 moved back to Ontario May 2010 and surrendered green card

PLEASE DO NOT PRIVATE MESSAGE ME OR EMAIL ME. I HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT CURRENT US IMMIGRATION PROCEDURES!!!!!
