So I got a little anxious (even though it's been just a couple of weeks since my interview) and called USCIS to find out if my oath date had been set. I reached an immigration officer who told me another immigration office just put in a request for my oath date this morning! Woohoo!

He said he did not have the exact date yet, because they are waiting for the scheduler to respond to the request. I believe he said that I would receive a letter in the next 30 days. I suspect it will be much sooner than that, any day now, and that he was overestimating to be safe.

The officer was pretty helpful and nice.

Here's what I did to find out my detailed case status:

1. Call USCIS: 1-800-375-5283

2. Press Options 1-2-3 in the phone tree

3. Tell the first operator you reached that you applied for citizenship more than 30 days ago and have not received a notice yet. Don't tell them anything else about your case process

4. The operator will then transfer you to an immigration officer who can look up your case and tell you if an oath date has been set yet or not.

This is really useful info. Thanks!

Hi Everyone,

So I had my interview today which went well. I arrived about 1 hour early and I was seen about 15 minutes before my original appointment time. The interviewer was very nice and friendly, he went through my application and asked me the following questions:

1. What is the name of the national anthem?

2. What is the rule of law?

3. What ocean is on the west coast?

4. What age do you have to be to vote? (or something like that)

5. What national event happened on September 11, 2001?

Then he asked me to say: How many senators are there?

and then he had me write the answer: There are one hundred senators.

The interviewer only asked to see my passport and green card and that was it. It lasted about 15-20 minutes and then I was approved!!!!!

Only a couple of weeks now until I receive my oath letter!

Congratulations to everyone who has passed and good luck to everyone who has their's coming up!

Congratulations!!! :dance::star::dance::star::dance::star:

Now I have a question for you. Did you only have to give one answer to question #2 or did you have to give all four answers?

Well my interview is done and dusted! Here is a brief summary:

Arrived twenty minutes early and was called in after about 30 seconds of waiting. I barely had time to pick a magazine off the rack.

The IO asked to see my passport and GC and then swore me in.

He went through my N400 and verified all the information was correct. He didn't ask to see any evidence and he already had my photos in a ziploc bag so the two I had taken this morning will wait for my passport!

He then administered the civics test. My questions were:

1) What is the longest river in the US?

2) Who is the speaker of the house?

3) For how many years does a president serve in one term?

4) When was the declaration of independence adopted?

5) Who lived in America before the Europeans?

6) What do we collectively call the first 10 amendments to the constitution?

I was then asked to read "How many senators are there?" and then write "We have 100 senators."

That was it. As the CIS have been so incredibly fast this time around, they were unable to approve me on the spot as my three year anniversary is not until next week so they have to wait until that date to approve me in their system. Otherwise they said everything was in order, congratulated me and said I would receive my oath letter within 1 month.

I was in the Federal building less than 11 minutes. I left before my interview was even scheduled to begin!

I hope everyone else has it as easy as I did!

ptrober, any updates? Did you finally get an approval letter?

Well I just got back from my Interview.

This was at the Northpoint Drive USCIS office in Houston.

Passed with flying colours - it was quite dissapointingly easy.

Arrived 15 minutes early, after 5 minutes i was called into a cubicle at the side to be administered my history/civics and english test.

Only asked 6 questions since I got them correct:

1) When was the declaration of independance signed

2) What do we call the first 10 amendments to the constitution? (the IO actually asked what do we call the first bit of the constitution, i had to ask her if she was talking about the preamble or the first 10 amendments, and so she clarified)

3) What is one of the longest rivers in the USA?

4) Who is the speaker of the house?

5), 6) -> i dont remember but they were easy... lol

I was then informed I had passed that part of the interview... and asked to go back into the waiting area...

After another 5 minutes I was called and taken up into an office for the main interview.

We spent a long time going over my application, and the documents that we had submitted... she did NOT want me to open my big box... though i offered several times lol she wanted only my 2008 tax returns, passport, greencard and then to discuss the modified oath with me, talking about my beliefs and exactly what I would or would not do.

She then printed out some additional paperwork that was required for the modified oath, examining my beliefs in detail (it was 12 pages to fill in!) but she did not wait for me to fill it in - and went ahead stamping my whole file with "approved" while i filled in the paperwork.

We then talked a little bit, just friendly while she re-checked everything and attached the extra sheets I'd just filled in - and she gave me the congratulations letter and told me to go back outside and wait in the waiting area.

After 5 minutes an IO came out and gave me my appointment letter for my Oath Ceremony!

April 22nd @ 7am - 5 minutes from my house!

So that was it - i arrived at 1.45 for a 2pm appointment, and despite LOTS of additional paperwork to fill in related to the modified oath, I was still out at 3pm.

Wow, after so much stress it was easy in the end... I think bringing in SO MUCH documentation made the IO feel she didnt need to see it lol.

So thats my experience - overall pretty simple and easy... despite the modified oath requirement!

Regards,

Jamie

Hi Stella08, I gave all four answers for question 2, I am not sure if I needed to or not, I was a little nervous so I blurted out the whole thing!

I hope this helps. Good Luck!

I got a VM from USCIS (the new standard for incompetence) today informing me that they canceled my appointment for tomorrow because they do not have my file.

To say that I am pissed or up set is an understatement at this point, considering that they had the last two months to get the file from wherever it is.

She left her number and her name and I can assure you that she will be getting an ear full from me tomorrow morning when I return her call.

That depends.

Do you have religious believes that prohibit you from taking up arms? If so then yes, but you should have already gotten and submitted documentation for that.

You needed to indicate it on your N400, and write a letter of explanation, and get a letter from your Religious organization confirming how long you have been a member and the stand on taking up arms... etc etc...

If you are just a consciencious objector, unfortunately they do not consider that grounds for a modified oath... which just stinks...

Congratulations to all those who passed today....

I was the same.

You should get 2 more photos and take them with you - sometimes they loose or damage the photos, or sometimes they just dont like them...

Think of it this way - if you dont need those photos, you have them ready for your passport application, but if you DO need them - you have them and there is no need to get them for that.

Jamie

They mean your physical paper immigration file.

They had mine right there - it was about 9 inches thick with documents etc - there were some things i was supposed to bring according to the letter, but simply was not required to hand over because they still had the original certified copies from when we applied for AOS.

Incompetence all the way, I never cease to be amazed. I guess Fedex does not do business with USCIS, a file I sent to them at VSC could not find its way to NYC, it is totally amazing to me.

I'll keep you posted tomorrow, we'll see what date they reschedule for and then I'll complain some more. Then may be ask my wife to sue them on my behalf just for fun.

I am fuming right now, forgive my ranting.

ptrober, any updates? Did you finally get an approval letter?

Nope. Nothing. I have not received anything since my interview. I think I am going to try doing what rilian suggested and call to see if I have been queued for an oath letter.

When IO left me a voice message she stated that my file was not ready, later on it I found out that my name check was not completed. It seems to me there is profiling going on.
