That's very true but sadly a lot of people can't afford to buy the best of anything let alone meat! Some people haven't got that choice even if they would want to make it. With one in ten people living below the poverty line you can see it's not always about choice!

I also just want to add that if it's something that's really important AND it's too expensive....then I think you just do without. I mean, when it's been a tight month and I could buy the cheaper non-free range...I just choose to not have it at all and wait till it's in the budget...

The reason some of us compasionate, caring people who have a heart care about animals so much and their welfare is because animals dont have a voice, humans do! If we didnt have a voice for the poor, innocent, defenceless animals then who would!!!

On a side note after reading all the posts on this topic I can not believe how many people are so sick in the head and how many heartless, sarcastic comments have been written about going to grab a burger and stuff. Even if you eat meat, and i agree, you are never going to stop humans from eating meat, if you had any kind of heart or compassion you would have commented that "yes, the treatment of these animals is awful and no creature should have to suffer like that but i will still eat meat as I enjoy it." What a sad sad world we live in when so many people think they are better than anyone or anything else and they think that just because we are humans we can do whatever we like to animals. At the end of the day we are all gods creatures and no creature is better than the other!

But listen, animals are BRED for the purpose of eating. That video, as far as i'm concerned, did not depict the NORM. It's PETA propaganda, so of course they are going to show you the opposite extreme! As I said in my previous post...most farmers know that if you want to be eating QUALITY meat that isn't tough ####### then you better be taking care of that meat you plan on putting in your freezer.

And you know what? I'm very sorry to tell you this, but I DO rate myself better than animals. We're the ones who makes sure that our steer and cows are properly taken care of, fed right and treated right...hell WE are doing all the work in making sure these cattle are comfortable. Compared to if they were living in the wild to fend on their own, on the farm they live the life of Riley!

Yes, we end up eating the steer but they are BRED for that PURPOSE.

I dont doubt myself for one minute that your animals on your farm live a pretty good life and get treated wonderfully, and you are right in saying that when their time does come, they will make for a better tasting meat. And believe me, if every animal that was bred for meat was raised like your animals do on your farm then life would be wonderful! But the video is about factory farming. Cramming animals into small cages where they can not move for their entire life, feeding them growth hormones, etc. This is where the problem is, not family run organic farms where the animals are taken care of and they run free.

That's funny... considering the majority of the people on this planet all believe we were created in some manner by a higher power... I guess we're all gullible idiots You want scientific evidence... take a look out your window every once in a while. I think only someone who has a real grudge against God would buy into the whole "accident" theory. Think about this the next time you ponder about how we came into existance.... if we were one mile (maybe even a foot or an inch) closer to or further away from the sun... we'd all be DEAD!!! Sounds to me like SOMEONE knew what He was doing when He put this whole thing together. Of course that "theory" is backed up by not one but several divine books. I don't really need some silly - angry at God- or -hey look at how smart I think I am- scientist to answer a question that God Himself has already clarified over and over again since the beginning of time. Remember, "scientists" 2,000 years ago thought the Earth was flat... gee do you think they were wrong? Or maybe the earth evolved into a sphere after that?

I'm not necessarily disagreeing with you but until you convince absolutely everybody of that the bad (cheap) practices will continue I'm sure. Like I've said I'm not advocating the cruel treatment of livestock was just trying to put a possible 'reason' into the pot.

Meat can be part of a balanced diet (as can vegetarianism before everyone jumps me lol, although to get absolutely everything necessary you're buying heap loads of different veggies/grains too) and why should people not eat meat because they cant afford organic free range stuff? Maybe the farmers that employ such disgusting practices should think less of profits eh? Like that will happen!

Anyway, no one yet has answered my question about whether they feed their pets meat or not?

My cats eat fish/poultry flavored cat food and if you happen to be eating meat in the house and turn your back for 2 seconds, they'll eat that too

Oh and they try so hard to get at the fish in the aquarium too.
