I don't agree with treating animals poorly but I have to point out that there are humane ways to slaughter animals to eat.

There is no humane way to slaughter any living creature. Death is death, and it is never humane. Who are we to take the life of another fellow earth-dwelling creature? Killing animals so we can eat them is both barbaric and wrong. Not to mention horribly unhealthy.

Ladybutterfly, I see nothing wrong with you posting the link to that video. While I definitley don't support all of PETA's actions, growing up in Central Florida with friends who've worked on many large factory farms, I can say without any doubt that the video is true in many, many situations. No, not all farms operate in such a repulsive manner, but most do. *shrug* It's simple fact.

I do agree that there are 'less horrible' ways to slaughter animals (true, killing is never humane lol).. but I do also think we try to be to philosophic about the life of a fukcin cow.. ffs cow, poultry, etc don't have a purpose in life, they are raised, as they said, to be eaten.. I don't see the problem with that.. lions eat zebras, humans eat cows.. no biggie.. true, that doesn't justify horrible slaughters and/or meat enhancement, cuz I do not agree of eating meat full of growth hormones..

and about the unhealthyness of meat.. well.. yeah whatever, I met a lady once who told me humans weren't made to be carnivores.. i was.. ok.. i've eaten meat for at least 15 years.. and I've never had a problem with it.. so.. enough of 'ayyy eating meat is cruel'.. cuz then the tables get turned, and then the vegans are crying 'ayy u dont understand us'..

simply, a cow is a cow, born to have cattle, give the cattle and us humans milk.. and ultimately, meat.. I don't have a problem with that..I do agree that yes, they suffer (link?), but.. thats the way it is, we are atop of the chain.. probly if the t-rex were born again, then he'd eat humans.. but. oh well.. is not like that

might i point out that we are designed as a omnivore. our eyes are in the front of our head, instead of on the side, and with them in the front that allows the hunter to keep the prey in sight at all times. blame god or evolution - your choice - and enjoy your bliss.

Evolution doesn`t end though does it? These days meat eating is not essential. We are no longer hunter gatherers. We are consumers. We use those eyes in the front of our head for spotting a bargain now. We can also use them to spot inhumane treatment by humans. Not to say that you should all go vegetarian but you should certainly take more interest in what you eat and where it comes from aswell as how it is produced. Puss in milk for example. You should of course do this even if you are a vegetarian because mass production is an enemy to quality i believe.

I do also firmly believe that if you insist on eating meat then you should at least do your best to make it healthier and that will in turn be healthier for you.

If you are referring to my avitar, then no, its not a greyhound, she is a lurcher (kind of like a whippet). FYI - I dont approve of greyhound racing either!

I know what a lurcher is. I used to have a Deerhound, and now I have a rescue greyhound (retired racer). Here they are:

One has to remember this, cattle, chickens, turkey, hogs are raise for one thing and one thing only and that is for meat for us to eat!!!!

But they didn't evolve to be a food source for humans, no more than a tree's ecological role is to provide timber.

Previous to visiting America in 2002, no meat had passed my lips for a good 2/3 yeas, and until going back to the states in 2005 to see my fiance, I ate no meat in the intervening time. The first place I ate in the U.S on my first visit was a hooters, and I asked if they had anything other than salad as an alternative to meat and poultry, the look I got from the waitress was more than enough to put me off asking the same question anywhere else I ate.

There seems to be a prevailing attitude, that the world we live in and all it's contents are there almost solely for our use (or abuse), and anyone that seeks an alternate way is to be viewed as a nutter, especially when it comes to eating meat.

For those people that do run thier small farms humanely, well done to you, but for every small farm that operates in this manner, there's a large factory farm that operates in a way less than savoury manner.

My old next door nieghbour was a trucker and used to drive cattle trucks to such places, and he said in the 5 or so years he was a cattle truck driver, not one of the places ever actually treated the cattle with anything less than contempt.

PETA aren't the only organistaion that show and distribute this kind of 'propaganda', so is every animal cruelty charity that film and distribute similar footage trying to... actually trying to what? if thier aim is to get people to look at alternatives to eating meat, and to get people to treat animals humanely, where's the wrong in that?

anyway.. I was thinking.. we see discovery channel all the time we're 'ohh look how interesting, how the lioness kills the zebras in order to feed the lion and the little ones' and we 'enjoy' watching a still-alive animal being ripped apart by lions..

if there's nothing morally wrong with a lion eating a zebra, why is it wrong for a human? we are still animals, and need other animals and veggies to live.. as i read in the forums.. with that logic it wouldnt be justifiable to eat veggies, because they might feel pain, but they arent able to scream

Just for the record I don't agree in any way in treating animals poorly, or killing them so rich old ladies can wear fur coats, but i eat meat and i'm realistic. It's evolution, the bigger eats the smaller. Not that i'm bigger than a cow btw but i know that all the meat we eat don't come from cows, fish, chicken that just happened to die. And everybody knows that.

That's why I couldn't finish watching it. It would probably make me want to stop eatting, but i wont. My diet is low carb and high protein.

Now that was totally uncalled for, calling me ignorant. First of all you don't know me, because obviously if you knew the last thing you'd call me would be ignorant. Second i'm entitled to my opinion, whether you agree with it or not. If you don't agree or dislike, you can give your opinion too, but there's no need to act like a high school kid and call me names.

let them continue.. these debates have happened before in VJ.. and at the end the veggies went home crying.. some even quite VJ.... (not the real vegetarians, but the fools and wannabes who start criticizing omnivores and calling them ignorants and all that BS)
