I'm curious if anyone knows how much the bkk embassy(or any embassy I suppose) takes into account the affidavit of support. If I do one myself, it won't be very strong, I stopped working in the states in mid 2007(military) and have just been doing odd things here in Thailand since. Have a bit of money coming in/out of the banks, and could get a job easy in the states, but don't know if they'll just take my word for it Out of two potential co sponsors I have, one just lost his job, the other just started a new job Also, since I will probly be in country for the interview, is it a good idea for them to see me/talk to me as well?

Thanks

(I'm going for the IR-1 and blowing off the K-3. Even if it takes an extra couple months, it's worth it to not have to deal with USCIS again)

"Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

Note:

Please fill out I-130, wait 6 months for approval, then 3 more months for an interview. (Unless of course we've bombed your country into the stone age, then you qualify for expedited processing.)

Welcome to the USA!!!

A couple things to think about:

1. You are in Thailand already, so you should probably get married there, and then file DCF (Direct Consular filing.) It's pretty easy to get married there. I did it there. Just went to the Amphur in Bang Rak. Not sure if you are in Bangkok, but you can go to any Amphur and get married. You will need an affidavit from the embassy stating that you are not married already. I don't think you can file K-1 DCF. You will need to prove that you have been living there for 6 months.

2. I don't think you can use a co-sponsor for the I-134 (k-1) in Thailand anyway. I've heard conflicting stories about this. If you file DCF which is the CR-1 visa (green card) then you will use for I-864 to prove your income. They will allow a co-sponsor for I-864.

Regardless, you're going to need a co-sponsor who has enough income and/or assets to qualify. Nothing you earn abroad can be counted unless it will continue from the same source in the US. No, they won't just take your word for it.
