Hi,

I have migrated to the United States on a "IR-1 Immigrant Visa". Just want to know How long it takes to recieve social security and green card in the mail ?

and if i can check the status of green card online ?

I would appriciate any helpful advice

So u got ur Social Security Card after 14 days of arrival and Green Card after a month. I was just wondering coz at the POE "HOUSTON" they told me Green Card would take 6 month to arrive in the mail.

Are you sure it's not 6 weeks? Cos 6 months is an awful long time to process a green card! Unless the service center is behind I suppose..

Do a search on "Houston" here http://www.visajourney.com/reviews/poereviews.php and click through to see the timelines of other people who came through there recently. It may show when they received their green card/SSNs

My husband's took 7 weeks but I was constantly calling the US (about once a week after week 4) because if I didn't want them to get away with the "we sent it to you already and now you have to file the I-90 and pay $370" schpill.

Give it time but definitely NOt 6 months for sure.

03/30/11 - N-400 sent via Priority Mail w/ delivery confirmation

Ok i got the Welcome Notice in the mail today. and i went to Social Security Office and applied one they said i would get it within 7 to 10 days.

I wonder how long the actual Green Card would take. and when i am suppose to register with Selective Service ?
