Barack Obama has joined the illustrious list of leading US politicians to get a secret service codename.

The agents who guard the president-elect may operate in secrecy but the colourful names they use to identify their charges have long been made public.

Trailblazer and Tempo - or outgoing president George W Bush and his wife Laura - will make way for Renegade and Renaissance, the next leader and First Lady Michelle Obama.

Their daughters Sasha and Malia will rejoice in the names Rosebud and Radiance.

The names are chosen by the White House Communications Agency, a branch of the military that serves the White House and Secret Service.

They are designed to be easily pronounced and understood when agents are whispering into microphones hidden up their sleeves.

Vice-president-elect Joe Biden is known as Celtic, while defeated Republican presidential candidate John McCain was named Phoenix after his home state Arizona.

His running mate Sarah Palin, was Denali - the name of national park in her home state Alaska, while oil worker husband Todd was Driller.

Previous presidential code names have included Passkey for Gerald Ford, Rawhide for Ronald Reagan and Deacon for Jimmy Carter.

Nagishkaw.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

Beloved

This is Lalai posting, right?

If so, hi Lalai. If it's David.... what happened to you????

Two meanings:

Because I'm so beloved here, it was a natural fit.

The name David means "beloved" in Hebrew.

David & Lalai

Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. ####### coated bastards with ####### filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive bobble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine.
