wow, that's great that there is a direct flight now. I will have to check it out. I want to go, but I am nervous to go now.

There is minimal violence going on there right now. Either way, international security professionals suggest not staying in "western branded" hotels or hotels frequented by westerners.

In the most recent activity in Mumbai, this theory applies in that the first class hotels are frequented by westerners. Stay in a 3 star hotel.

There are many outstanding hotels out there that do not pose a threat of violent activity. In fact, the best hotels I have ever stayed in are branded by local or other national chains.

Keep a low profile and you will have a successful journey.

Since I was a child, whenever we traveled to India, our father drilled into us the habit of leaving our US passports at home and not wearing overtly American attire. Back then though, the threat wasn't terrorism but theft.

This Mumbai thing has made me a little nervous, but we still are going to go to Mumbai in a couple months. When I went to India last time I tried not to stand out too much but it didn't work. I am taller than most Indian women(and men that I saw!) and I am not thin. My hair had been dyed black(not b/c of the trip, it just was black back then). Sujeet says I supposedly could look like I am from the Kashmir area. Even when I wore Indian salwars(like to the Taj Mahal), people kept looking at me like "why are you wearing that?". At least I tried. :P If people go to India and wear skimpy clothes or don't try to blend a little, I think it's a very dumb decision.

Well I guess a good thing is we are too cheap to ever stay in those fancy hotels or very tourist-y areas. Still, it's a little nerve wracking because I will stand out no matter what. The place we will visit, in Navi Mumbai-- Kharghar, is kind of far from the areas that were targeted. But still the airport is near there.

Married since 9-18-04(All K1 visa & GC details in timeline.)

I'm like you, I stood out too. I am taller than my fiance. I wore Pakistani clothes when I was in Pak. People told me I look quite a bit like my fiance's family, but everywhere I went people stared at me. One time some children said look, she is Punjabi-hahah like anyone who looks different must be Punjabi. I think it was my body language that is different from Asian women. We also stayed in cheaper hotels and ate in the local restaurants and really enjoyed it.
