I have known my SO since February 2008. I intend to fly to India to see him in February 2009 and I would like to start the filing process as soon as I get back. I've been gathering information for the past few weeks but to be quite honest I find some of this very confusing. I'm clear on the basics of what has to happen, but then I signed up here and all of these acronyms are frying my brain lol. As a newbie, do you have any helpful advice you can offer me as I start my journey to being with the love of my life? Any information is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!

January 2009 - K-1 Denied by the consulate

January 2011 - Moved to India - Yikes!

October 2011 - DCF filing rejected by overzealous employee at the embassy

December 2011 - Tourist visa denied (not surprising)

March 2012 - CR1/IR1 process started

May 1, 2012 - RFE and some of our information was entered into the computer wrong by the CSC

Best advice is to try not to swallow the entire process at once, instead, focus on smaller 'chunks' of information.

For me/us the most helpful was the K1 Flowchart (which can be found in the Guides Section) and breaking it down into things you need to do now. Then the Step by Step guides helped in breaking down the forms and the tips to assembling the package - the Example forms really help as well.

There's an Immigration Dictionary that can be found HERE to help define some/most of the acronyms.

Hi there

We've also just started preparing for filing the petition for a K1 visa for me to join my boyfriend in the states. We've found this site really helpful and the guides are detailed: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...amp;page=guides

If you come across an abbreviation that you can't work out, ask! The more common ones refer to either forms that you will complete for various stages and reasons, or references to events (RFE: Request For Evidence, NOA: Notice Of Action) or departments.

Good luck on your journey :)

Timeline Summary:

K-1/K-2 NOA1 - POE: 9 February - 9 July 2010

ROC mailed - approved: 14 February - 18 June 2013

Citizenship mailed - ceremony: 9 February - 7 June 2017

Thank you both so much! I'm already reading over it all and it's so much easier to understand than the immigration websites.

I suggest getting all the information together for the I-129f and G-325A before you visit your Fiance. Fill out the G-325A online (completely) except for signature. When you visit your Fiance he can sign all 4 copies of "HIS" G-325A while you are there. This will save the hassle of faxing and mailing the forms. His signature is not required on the I-129f. Also, if you draft a letter of intent to marry, he can sign that when you visit him. I hope this is helpful. Good luck:D
