Hello all;

Just to let every one know, there will be no more panel physician appointment for Halifax, Nova-Scotia.

Last appointment will be October 31, 2008. I found out because my appointment was November 4, 2008. Was called and told about it, and change over to October 29th. She explain that appointment will be done in Toronto, never mention Montreal.

Another kink into the system!! ouch!!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Thanks Marie - wow this is getting sillier and sillier. They are probably trying to get it down to 1 or something, so on top of travelling to the interview you will have to travel for this as well - absolutely ridiculous.

Absolutely ridiculous indeed. I'm glad I had my medical before all this. However, I feel for those who will have to make an extra trip in the future. Not fun. :(

That's pretty horrible. Hopefully Montreal still conducts them so people can just have their medical done a couple days before their interview or something like that.

F-ing system. They screw us from every which direction here. I think whoever makes the rules about interviews and physicians hasn't actually taken out of a map of Canada and considered her sheer size and the problems traveling from oh I dunno Yellowknife, NT to Montreal, QC for the medical 1st and then perhaps for the interview.

With my spare time I am taking up writing a letter to my Senator and see what on earth the rationale for this is.

Wow that is ridiculous...I guess its not just Western Canada that is getting screwed. Someone needs to write and complain about the situation.

Hello all:

All I was told on the phone was I had to go up before October 31,2008 by the Panel Physician Dr. Doane, receptionist. She told me they had received a letter from Immigration that no longer would appointment be done in Halifax, Nova Scotia. She told me I would have go to go to Toronto, never mention Montreal. She booked me for October 29, in Halifax had to get more vacations, as I was booked for November 4th. Could not cancel other vacations. Oh. well. I am very happy to get this appointment. It will be a lot for those who live in the Maritimes, because you could get a medical before interview then relax a little with so much to do.

I really don't get what the deal is with the Doctors. I know the Doctor I went to in Edmonton no longer does the immigration physicals.

Is this the Doctors choice or USCIS to no longer do them? These Doctors get a wad of cash for about 15 minutes work. Seems like a sweet deal to me.

Oh wow, that's terrible news. :(

I really do wonder about how doctors are chosen for immigration medicals - whether it's up to USCIS or the doctor. I suspect that it's USCIS, because there are many more doctors here in the US that are willing to perform immigration medicals, and their costs vary from expensive to stupidly expensive.

Bee - Devon PA, USA (he's the one who gave her the shiny ring)

Wow, this sucks. It was bad enough that Dr. Doane was the only doctor for NS, PEI and NFLD-LAB, but jeez louise, people will have to go to Toronto now? That's rediculous!

I think it has to do with USCIS, but I don't really know.

Don't forget NB :)

Wow, I can't believe this. I had my medical done on the 16th, and his secretary and I had a nice chat. She never mentioned that he would be stopping. wonder if it was sudden or if he had known?

I'm glad I got in before the cutoff then, I dont know how I would have be able to afford it otherwise :( It's not fair to other Maritimers, just another kick in the pants for us East-Coasters I guess :S
