Hi!

No, they don't need to be notarized. The only thing my husband sent was 1 miserable letter from his mother explaining our situation, where and when we met and saying that she went to the wedding. Nothing else! I was really nervous, because we only sent that proof, but we had no RFE because of that (we had an RFE because of the passport picture's size...). My advice is: send a couple of letters from family, pictures, e-mails and letters just in case.

Good luck!

If getting the affidavit notarized is not a big deal I suggest that you go ahead & do it. It just shows that the person writing the affidavit has been wittnessed as writing/signing it. Anyone can write a letter but taking that extra step makes it more of an official document. Those little things can make a big diffrence. Just my opinion.

Best wishes with your journey!!

We sent an affidavit of third party just the same, even if we had the marriage certificate and joint accounts. Having more evidence wouldn't hurt and may even help. We sent a truckload and look where we are now :) And, yes, affidavits are always notarized.
