It's hard to believe but since 1976,

Only one democrat has been elected to the White house (Clinton) and even he never got 50% of the vote.

Here we are 30 sum years latter and they are having another go-at-it.

Can the fresh-faced, Likable Senator from IL go where so many have failed?

I would suggest if not now.... then never, I mean what more could Barak Obama have going in his favor?

He has everything but a White-house Sex scandal working in his favor.

The President is at such low approval rating, only Congress is lower.

The Stock markets are in ruins.

We have an ongoing war.

The housing market seems to only go lower.

Banks are closing their doors.

Oblama has unlimited spending regulations (after breaking that promise).

But the biggest advantage Barak has is, he is running against a "man with no party".

Think about it, John McCain is like some third party candidate. Sure he wears the "R" on his Jersey but can anyone say they really "Like" him or want him as "their" President?

It's more like, people are gravitating too McCain to get away from Obama.

Every major conservative talking Head has at one time or another swore they would never vote for McCain. People who see barak as nothing more than a socialist are still not voting McCain, believing it is better to loose this election than to have another 4 years of "Leftwing-Republic" rule. They say fall back and regroup hoping a real conservative will emerge.

The only thing to ask is; Why is barak only leading by a few points?

It's hard to believe under this environment the Opposition party is not mopping up the floor as Reagan did to Carter (and later to Modale).

Jimmy Carter is a Democrat. He served as president from 1977-1981.
Why yes! And whom do you think the OP was referring to when he mentioned the 1976 election? Duh!!

PEOPLE: READ THE APPLICATION FORM INSTRUCTIONS!!!! They have a lot of good information in them! Most of the questions I see on VJ are clearly addressed by the form instructions. Give them a read!! If you are unable to understand the form instructions, I highly recommend hiring someone who does to help you with the process. Our process, from K-1 to Citizenship and U.S. Passport is completed. Good luck with your process.

That makes no sense. The OP said only one Democrat has been elected since 1976, and that was Bill Clinton. Since 1976, two Democrats have been elected: Jimmy Carter (in the year in question) and Clinton. If he was trying to exclude Carter, he should have said since 1980.

It is more than crystal clear to anyone with an IQ greater than that of Bush, that the OP was indicating that one only democrat has been elected as president since the election of Carter in 1976.

The election of Carter occured IN 1976, not SINCE 1976.

What an appropriate response. I also like how you edited your response to clarify, since yeah--it was unclear.

But no worries--resulting to insults was a totally legitimate response.

Actually, I was still in the process of finalizing my post when you posted. I didn't see your post until afterward.

Conservatives have done a good job at brainwashing people.

I come to this conclusion because here in the U.S., their policies and the results of them are as outlined:

Moral policies: Backfired in their face.

Fiscal policies (balancing the budget): Backfired in their face.

Economic policies (jobs/goods and services): Backfired in their face.

Foreign policies: Backfired in their face.

So really one's left to ask how does such incompetence continue to be elected or even close to a majority?

Simple. People are well into the illusion of a two party system. Republicans know they instantly get near 50% of the votes each time. Keep the issues divisive, making gay marriage and "terrorism" the focus, act religious, morally superior, and voila, you have an easy vote coming your way.

OK, so let's hear your review of the democrat policies (:

It's not an illusion. As long as sensible people continue to refuse to vote 3rd party, it's what we're stuck with.

I agree. But to be fair, the democrats have the same strategy, they just use different issues.

As I know you are aware, the democrats are no better than the republicans. But if they manage to actually lose this election - then my god - they may as well disband the party.

Moral policies: .. can't really backfire since it's so erratic.

Fiscal policies: Backfired in their face. Caved into Bush so many times.

Economic policies: Backfired in their face. How about that earmark reform, which was just disclosure?

Foreign policies: Backfired in their face. Still in Iraq. Still kissing Israel a$$ and giving money to them for nothing.

It's not an illusion. As long as sensible people continue to refuse to vote 3rd party, it's what we're stuck with.

The illusion is that they're sensible. ;)

I agree. But to be fair, the democrats have the same strategy, they just use different issues.

They do use the same issues, they just aren't very inventive and just steal Republican strategies, which is why it looks like Democrats have shifted to the right.

They should, and so should Republicans.

We should try Canada's approach to multiple parties. They have 6 major parties, 4 of which have a major say-so. Imagine the working together of different ideas that might accomplish. People tend to start changing their vote when nothing gets done, so I'm sure they'd be more eager to do something at least.

Gee, I gave you the hint, sparky, and you took off running with it. Duh! You must be so proud!

huh?

Multiple parties in government is hardly unique to Canada (:

How exactly does it work up there, do people often get elected with less than 50% of the vote.

With 5 or 6 candidates, seems like it would be mighty difficult to get a majority vote, or maybe they have a run-off?
